Women vs. Computers.

No no, this is not to start some sort of a sexist thread.

Based on what I see and my work experience, the majority of girls that use computers usually use it for chatting purposes and/or for writing their papers. Other than that, the box is virtually useless to them (the box = computer for you smart alecs). Why is that? It's not like men are over exposed to the availability and the usefulness of computers.

Any reason or do most women just dislike using the computer for anything other the aforementioned reasons?

Women prefer emotional crap and socializing with other people. Apparently they don't see the social aspect of fragging the sh-- out of someone in CS.

Thats one valid point. The only game I have seen girls play is Solitaire, and these are the girls whom no one would rather socialize with.

yup other then solitair, making a game for women is very hard. I'm starting to think only startrek holodeck level would be attractive to them.

my sister plays Q3, but she socializes while she plays. She found this function called "talk" or something like that. Wierd.

HEY!! I take offense at that!!! Just 'cause I FINALLY beat 10,000 on Solitaire doesn't make me someone nobody wants to associate with.







However, the fact that it took me a week solid with no time to shower MIGHT.

I use it for a lot of things. Mostly to hang out here

I play a lot more games than Solitaire. For example, there's freecell
But seriously, I play a lot of games like Roller Coaster Tycoon, the Sims, Pharoah, I just got Diablo II, I even play UT occasionally.

I do use my computer to chat, send email, write papers, research stuff via the internet, and just goof around.


So, before you go around generalizing about women again - why don't you actually talk to one first?

Toolgirl - I didn't mean to start a flame war. This is based on what I see. The girls I know only use it for chatting and writing up their papers. And again, what I see agrees with the girls I speak to. Therefore, I make the statement.

I know some women who use their PC primarily for webdesign/coding. I also know about guys who only use their PC for text-processing.

I must agree, however, with that many women use their PC less for 'useful' things than men.
I don't consider playing games being useful.

What kind of girls? You know, the regular kind. For me the regular kind is your typical decent looking girl whom you see around campus or at bars etc etc.

I'm sorry, I don't know if I can explain that any better.

I don't talk to the people who are in to the goth scene (no offense to anyone) and people who are in to similar 'stuff'.

I have lived in all these places except for London where I stayed there for a week and met some friends.

Not to piss you off ToolGirl, but I have to agree with thereds. The girls I know who own a computer use it for IM, email, and writing papers. The only 133t haX0rs I know are guys. I go to a tech school with 12,000 students and I can't think of one girl I know who's interested in computer hardware or tweaking or warez or anything more in depth.


Not a bad thing, just an observation.

I didn't want to sound mean or offend you, but I just feel that you're generalizing too much about this.

For example - the solitaire thing. I know many girls who play more than just Solitaire or stuff like that.

How many men do you see gabbing on the phone for a couple hours a night gossiping about this and that? Not too many.

ICQ, AIM, and the like are slowly replacing phones and other traditional forms of communication. It's just a transition into technology.

what is the connection between estrogen and solitaire, anyway. I have not known a girl that was not obsessed with this game. Its a lot like taco bell. Ask around. See if you can find a female who doesnt like solitaire and taco bell. I dont like to stereotype, but Its what I have noticed, all girls I talk to like one or both to the extreme. My G/F could get by with webtv. Email and chat, and solitaire, thats all the big box w/ bright lights is used for.
It could be a 486 for all she cares, as long as these three things can be done.

I like the Space Ghost version of Solitaire - the regular version is too boring.


And Taco Bell is suck. Taco Johns is soooo much better. Besides, if I want good mexican, there is this really good restaurant here in town. More expensive, but worth it. j
