you are operating on as assumption that merely saying it makes the relationship closer.

I am pretty sure I have never told my brothers, or the best man in my wedding I love them

and you assume that it means that we cant be as close as you are with some friend that you have said it to.

the whole argument is based on an assumption that I am sure isnt actually correct

But you would surely agree that you have a closer relationship to a girlfriend you have been going out with for a year, who you have told your inner desires and loves to, than a girl you have been going out with 6 months who you aren't ready to tell those things to.
