Woman's 2 gallon a day Coke consumption cited in death

meh she was a idiot.

ncluding smoking a reported 30 cigarettes per day and having poor eating habits

seems like she was not very bright. 2-2.5 gallons of coke and all those cigs? wow

Based on that article it wasn't the Coke. She drank way too much, sure, but she was just in poor health all around.

"it was also revealed that Harris made other questionable health choices before her death, including smoking a reported 30 cigarettes per day and having poor eating habits."

This is a non-story.

has Coke ever even been cited in a death before? I know a few people who have been pounding a case of Mt Dew a day for decades now. I know it's very unhealthy, but I've never seen a death where the doctor cited the amount of soda the person drank as a reason. The doctor in the story also cited "toxic levels of caffeine" it would take much more to reach toxic levels than how much is in 2 gallons of Coke. That's what? about 750mg or so, the pre workout I just took has about 300mg a scoop (took 2 scoops) and I downed that in about 10 seconds. Not spread out over an entire day like she did.

There's lots of salt in soda. I could see excessive amounts of soda being a contributor to hardening arteries.

By itself, she probably would have been fine. But, when you add 30 cigarettes per day and general bad diet/excercise, yeah it probably was a "factor".

Not salt. They use Phosphoric acid because it still provides that slightly sour/salty taste and it works as a preservative/anti-microbial.

I've got a coke can in my hand now. It's not unhealthy if you're burning off the calories. Hell, Usain Bolt stuffs his face full of McDonald's before races and Swimmer's eat tons of crap.

The woman died of self-neglect.

Not really, ~50mg per 8oz can. Low sodium diets are like 2000mg daily.

I've got a can of Sun Drop right here (basically Seven Up's version of Mt. Dew) and it's got 130mg sodium in 12 oz. There's 128 ounces in a gallon...so 256 ounces in two gallons. That's just over 21 cans of soda in two gallons...

That's almost 3 grams of sodium. Just from the soda.

Assuming she eats other normal stuff like pasta or rice, that could be a pile more sodium.

Plus smoking.

That's a lot of pain for your arteries.
