To differentiate between types of pain is to give significance to it. When you know it isn't going away and likely to get worse, you don't spend time or energy thinking it's better or worse than another kind of pain. I don't need sympathy and to the best of my knowledge, receiving sympathy never lessened pain in any way. Adding to your problems by taking on additional emotional and mental stress leads only to the kind of depression that claimed the woman's life. If you want to survive, you'd better harden up.

The article mentions she had zero money what-so-ever. And since it wasn't an emergency she couldn't go to the emergency room to be treated. That's what makes it so sad, she didn't have to suffer, but she lacked the funds to live a normal life.
