Missing a few things... cannot be in that park without kids. She was on a bench, but really got the ticket for being in there. You also missed that police are not a jury. They just enforce the law. The courts determine if it was right or wrong (or the law needs to be changed.) If it is 'dumb,' that is for a judge or jury to decide.

Thank you captain no sh!t, we are still allowed to comment on how stupid a law is right?

The point is, it is not the cops job to interpret the law, just to enforce it. If you think you were wrongfully accused, use the assigned court date on your ticket and fight it, the judge will interpret the law and decide your fate. If you deserved the ticket, pay it and suck it up.

Good to know that tax $$$ are being spent on a park where you can't sit unless you have a rugrat, How about one where you can't sit if you have one of the little monsters.

wich is part of the problem. Everyone pays for the park. yet they are denying the use to single people. Or anyone that just wants to take a walk in the park.

what gets me the park district is saying that the law did not work as intended. sure look like it did to me. They ticketed a women who was in the park without a kid. how else was the law sopposed to work?

if people around the area actually watched the news telecast, you would see how small the park is and where she was sitting was right next to a kids playground. the news also mentioned that that rule only apply to certain parks, not all.

so its only on some parks right? that makes the law even worse.

That is not going to stop a pedophile. if they want to get kids they are going to go to a diffrent park.

glad i dont live there. i would been arrested by now (spends time in parks a lot).

By your argument should all the bathrooms be unisex then?

If one actually looked into the article, which was designed to be sensational anyway, you would see this 'park' is actually the PLAYGROUND inside the park. I am all for keeping single adults out of a PLAYGROUND area...or providing full-time monitors.

no they should have email and female bathrooms (don't care if they are unisex myself it does not bother me). But this is not the same as a park.

We have decency laws that prohibit a male from going into a female bathroom etc. This law denies entry into a park that they pay for.

This will also NOT stop a pedophile. There is no reason i should be denied entry to a park that i pay for because my daughter is in school or i want to get some walking in etc.

If they wanted the law to do something different they should have written the law different. This is a ineffective and dumb law.

You don't even know the area you are talking about then.

This is hardly a 'park', it's a small area with Playground equipment designed for just children, there is only a bit of room for the benches. A PLAYGROUND is not a park.

It's the same as male and female restrooms. Access is meant by only that group.

A PLAYGROUND is designed for children, if you don't have one with you playing you shouldn't be there.

No one denied that lady access to the benches in the rest of the area and parks. Just the children only area.

Then why don't they have an Adults only area of the park where children are not allowed. And since when is it wrong for someone to watch kids play? I imagine some older people like watching kids play because it brings back memories of their childhood. This Country is in a sad state when we have to pen our kids up to play.

i dont care how small the park is. that really does not matter.

banning people who do not have kids from sitting on benches even at a playground is insane. IT IS NOT GOING TO STOP A PEDOPHILE.

Then you start to ban people are paying taxes to support the park. Many people enjoy sitting at the park. I know i can't be the only on on ATOT that enjoys sitting on the benches.

laws like this do more harm then good. Not to mention if they are going to charge her why is even the park district complaining to that they enforced it wrong?

Why in gods name would you want to sit in a childrens playground area when you have no kids there? There is no possible justification for this.

Watching other people's kids play in a playground area is just bizarre to me.:p

Right, but when you witness an adult alone in the area you can at least eliminate some possibility.

Waggy if you truly enjoyed sitting in a child's only playground (much like the one at mc donalds and the like, this was the same kind of deal) prior to having a kid, that is bizarre.

It's loud and obnoxious, a lot different than sitting in a quiet area to read or feed the ducks.

To the other poster mentioning the county must be in a sad state of affairs if we have to pen our kids.

The answer is the planet is. Not just the US. There was a time when you didn't have to lock your doors or look both ways before crossing the street either.

As we grow in population, problems become more evident.
