Woman strikes back at Ticketmaster for bad tix!!

Did anyone hear about this story? It seems a woman is suing Ticketbastard for $20 MILLION because they gave her bad tickets (obstructed view) to a Michael Jackson concert. As much as I hate frivolous lawsuits, I hope Ticketmaster gets spanked in this one, just for being such price-gouging a@@sholes.

Linky (see bottom of page)

Well over the course of their existence I'm sure they've gouged well in excess of $20mil in "venue fees", "service charges", etc. A little payback would be nice, although personally I don't think this women deserves anywhere near what she's asking for

Obstructed view of MJ... that's a bad thing?

20 mill? Thats sick. Just refund her for the price of the tickets.

While that seem reasonable, what about her transportation expenses, parking expenses, the wasted time to/at/from the concert?

I'm sure that should tack on another $30-40! 😉

I'm sure what she's going for is that this is an event that cannot be replicated that was worth more to her than the value of the tickets. It's up to a judge to decide the amount, if any, of those damages.

I get so tired of all these lawsuits, but for some reason, i'm glad someone is suing ticketmaster(i'm tired of this bastards even more. 😉). But 20 million? That's outrageous, i could understand something like 1 million, but 20? ::faints::

for the lazy...ripped from the site

Michael Jackson fan Dana Gross is suing New York's Madison Square Garden and Ticketmaster for $20 million US for issuing her bad tickets to the gloved one's 30th Anniversary Concert on September 10th without warning. According to Gross, who bought six tickets for herself and some friends at $100 each, she found out she had an obstructed view of the stage when she arrived at the venue. Ticketmaster defended the location of Gross and her friends' seats, saying she asked for the best seats available at the time she bought the tickets and unfortunately for Gross, that meant the best seats were obstructed views. Gross' lawsuit is seeking $10 million for both punitive and compensatory damages.

BUHAAHAHA. Remember... ANYONE can sue ANYONE for ANYTHING. That doesn't mean it will go anywhere or get awarded any money. Especially this stupid amount. Does she really expect someone to grant her mental anguish compensation. WHAT MENTAL ANGUISH.....

I have to say that she's a woman...of course she's going to want money she didn't earn.... If the view was obstructed, that's out of ticketmaster's control. She should have paid for front row seats if she wanted an unobstructed view. Furthermore, what's to stop a fat guy/gal from sitting in front of you in these events? I suppose she's gonna sue for that next time....

Also, Ticketmaster isn't who sets the prices of the events. They only charge a few $$ per ticket for their service. Most of the money goes to the venue... Most venues choose ticketmaster as their agent just because they're the largest ticket agent in the US.

How long has it been since you've gone to a concert? Ticketmaster's "few $$" is like $10-$15 per ticket these days.

I go to shows @ the Trocadero in Philly once in a while. Tickets are like $10 plus $6 convenice charge. Then you add a couple bux shipping. There might also be a service charge too. I forget.

My understanding:

In our (screwy) legal system, it's important to start with a high bargaining point so you can get a higher settlement. People want to avoid court because it's never a sure thing, and if you're settling out of court, starting with $20 000 000 means you're much more likely to get $100 000 than if you start at wanting $200 000.

Also, a $200 000 lawsuit won't get her much/any national attention or threads on ATOT.

Not really. A defendant company will assign a dollar value to a case, regardless of the amount which is sued for. They'll settle for that amount because either that's what they assess the damages to be, or they assess that's how much it will cost to defend the case even to a favorable judgment. They won't modify their calculations based on how much the other person demands because frivolous demands only hurt a case in the eyes of both the judge and jury.

this is sooo stupid, how can she say it was worth 20 million dollars to her? she probably has never or will never see 20 million dollars, this is retarded.

Paraphrase from Terminator 2 . . .

"3 billion human lives ended on August 29, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called it Judgement Day."

August 29 is Michael Jackson's birthday. 😉

(1) I find it odd that the guy didn't tell her the seat numbers or whatever as she was buying the tickets
(2) The article raises a valid point
(3) It doesn't mention whether or not she asked where the tickets were

Zing! 🙂 Though I'm afraid to agree with you...

Can you buy it from a different place? If so, then do it...it makes sense
