A federal appeals court threw out the 10-year prison sentence of a woman who rented her 9-year-old daughter to a pedophile more than 200 times, saying the punishment was too lenient.

The woman often held the girl down in their home while Joe J. Champion molested her, according to court documents. Champion typically paid the mother $20.

Well honestly, what purpose does it serve? You're not going to rehabilitate someone like that, all you can do is get "revenge" on them by locking them up for x number of years. Better off either killing them or letting them go.

Sad thing is that girl will never recover from that. She is more likely to abuse her kids as well - which is why abuse like this should have more serious punishment. She should be locked up until menopause so that she can't reproduce.

This isn't just about the individual, jail is a punishment and deterent for bad behaviour also of the people who haven't done anything yet, but know the consequences.

Social ethics not individual ethics.

Death is too severe. It doesn't fit the crime. But if you don't punish people like this, what will stop them from doing it again? Or stop someone else from doing it. That's like saying you don't ticket speeders because you aren't going to get them to quit speeding.
