Was taking the train from NYC to Princeton, NJ, and a woman jumped in front of the train at the New Brunswick station, and got hit. Sad story, I wonder what got her to get to that point.
The train was commisioned out of service, and another train came to take us the rest of the way.

Damn! It's so close to me too.

In Hong Kong, when someone jumped or accidentally fell, the station controller (usually the highest ranked person in charge of that particular station) needs to go down and pick up the remains. Couple of reasons:

1) If he waits till the fire department, they usually take a while to get to the scene, and that unacceptable in HK traffic, specially during peak hours with 1-2 minutes average wait per train.
2) The fire department would usually request the whole front part of the train be jacked up, and would, with very high potential, ruin the train.

I'd heard that one Station Controller picked up the body, the head was somehow still attacked and it sort of turn to face him. Scared the crap out of him I'm sure.

That being sad, it must have taken some courage to do it. The driving forces behind the act must have been overwhelming. Sigh.

BTW, Rumpltzer, your gf looks cute. 🙂

I can understand why a person would make such a choice, may she finally RIP.

WTF? Why do the firemen have to clean up the mess? Maybe because they have the hose?

cuz being late 2 hours don't mean ****** compared to a person's life.
Of course, but this isn't any ordinary death. You realized it was suicide, right? Why couldn't they just slash their wrists at home like any other emo? You don't have to go out to the tracks and it's not nearly as messy.

I use to work for the Toronto Subway and an average of 40 to 60 people jump in front of trains every year, surprisingly about a third survived some missing a limb or two.

Everyone's life is only so long. Just because you're sad doesn't give you the right to chop 2 hours off of mine. Go wander off into the forest and get eaten by a bear, or something.

Wow - of all the ways to off yourself, I can't see jumping in front of a train being one I'd choose.

I think I'd go with jumping out of a plane with no parachute. That would be one hell of a ride.

till u kiss the ground.

That would be the "killing myself" part.
(I would never kill myself)

I assume you would DIE from jumping out of a plane with no parachute. Unless you had some backup plan.

I always have backup plans for situations like those.

Oops...I've read stories from train conductors who see it all the time...there's usually not a lot they can do to stop the train.

The people inconvenienced on the train are the least of the problem. How about the people traumatized by seeing it happen? Or maybe even hurt or killed trying to prevent it? What about the trauma and resources it takes to cleanup the mess?

And this doesn't even get into what suicide does to your family.

It's incredibly selfish and destructive - but you'll be gone I guess so who cares, right. :|

If you want to kill yourself, do it quietly.

Yeah, that's the whole point. 😕 Try to follow the conversation... Armitage said that if he were going to kill himself, he wouldn't jump in front of a train. I said the way I would do it would be to jump out of a plane with no parachute, because if I'm going to die anyway I might as well do it in the most enjoyable way possible. You said "till u [sic] kiss the ground" (thanks captain obvious). I relied that hitting the ground is where the whole "killing myself" part comes in - because I was talking about how I would kill myself if I wanted to do so. I mentioned that I wouldn't actually kill myself, in case anyone was worried. Then you reply that I would DIE (emphasis yours) if I jumped out of a plane with no parachute. Thanks again, captain obvious. That's what the initial comment was about. 😕

seriously, i can understand why people commit suicide, but why some choose to do it this way is beyond me.
