I don't understand why a dog would ever attack someone that it lives with, feeds it, walks it. Is their pack mate. There is definitely something off about this breed and some of the people that want them around their little pets and kids. It's one thing to nip or bite but for a dog to kill a grown human it really has to wired totally wrong.

My only guess would be at some point in their life, a Pit wants to go Alpha and say I'm the one in charge here and goes beserk.
I'd say anyone having one around children are a bit wired wrong myself.

In that time there were 5460 attacks with injuries and and of that Pits were involved in 3617 or 69%.
In that time there were 2436 child victims and of that Pits were involved in 1443 or 61%.
In that time there were 1875 adult victims and of that Pits were involved in 1379 or 75%.
In that time there were 593 fatalities and of that Pits were involved in 307 or 53%.
In that time there were 3285 maimings and of that Pits were involved in 2249 or 70%.
When you look at the larger group of Molosser breeds that include Pits, Rotties, Cane Corsos, Mastifs etc the percentages are: 86%, 81%, 89%, 76%, 86%.
The next most dangerous breed is the Rottweiler, but it's way down the totals relative to Pits.

I saw that, but that site has an agenda. Their stats may be accurate, but I'd prefer seeing numbers from the cdc, or some other non partial group.

This list is crazy. I had no idea there were that many fatalities.
You can pretty much assume the list of injuries is 10x that.
People are so stupid to own large aggressive dogs.
Pits are dangerous and their danger factor is compounded by the mostly idiotic people that own them.
My Corgi puppy and I were charged by a pit that got out. It's own owner was scared of it. I got between it and my dog and grabbed it by the neck until the owner came and got it. Their fence was held together with random lawn furniture and junk.
About a week later it got out again and attacked a kid and their insurance company made them put it down. I'm a dog lover and did not feel one bit sorry about it.
Next year or so they changed companies and got another pit that they can't control. I'm seriously thinking of getting a CCW. I was lucky my dog and I weren't harmed the first time.

Yeah probably true on the 2 arms thing. Maybe ill just rip his eyes out then lol. I do think the best course of action though it to freely give them an arm or leg to latch onto so you have the rest of your extemities to battle for your life lol
Id like to think id win just due to human smarts vs an animal of medium size with only a bite attack. But i doubt id win.
That dog almost looks like an old engligh bulldog. Anyways my rule of thumb is dont get a dog you cant control if it decides to attack. I own an old english bulldog, he could be that dogs twin if not for coloring. He runs about 70 pounds and people always mistake him for a pitbull. Sweetest dog in the world. Our cats push him around. But at the same I if he flips out I can control a 70 pound dog. IE I can take a bite and work him over with my weight and strength. I weigh 225 and and workout. I also wouldnt feel comfortable with a dog bigger than him.
This woman should never had got such a big dog imo. Especially without knowing its background. I think it is difficult to take in any large dog breed without truly knowing its background. They arent like cats. They can do a lot of damage or kill if that background causes them to attack.

Pits are dangerous. Yes, the ownership has a lot to do with it, but that's not the whole story.
Pits cause the most deaths and severe injuries and it's not close. You don't need statistics to know this.
News media doesn't just report on Pit attacks. If there's a severe mauling or death, they report it.
Problem is....maulings by Cocker Spaniels or Golden Retrievers are few and far between.
All breeds can be made mean and will bite. Few breeds can be made mean enough AND are big/strong enough to kill you.

If the chimp has confidence... confidence goes a long way apparently. I was going to suggest Monkey Island's sword cusses as good base material to mess with the dog's mind and gain the upper hand, but that's obviously not a lot of use for a chimp.
Breed of peace. Few bad apples. Nurture over Nature. It's the owner not the breed.
Go to europe and look at their pit bulls. Then look at the american game pit bull. The breed has been destroyed from its origins. There should be a national neutering and just let the breed go extinct.

It should be noted a lot of dog bite statistics are difficult to ascertain if it was a pitbull or a pitbull type dog or a pitbull mix. In my example people often times mistake my Old English Bulldog is a pitbull. Chances are if he bit somebody he would be labeled as such.
Most of Europe has banned Pits. So it'd be hard to go look at theirs. Unless that's what you meant.
