Woman Faces Jail Because Holly (Her Dog) Couldn't Serve On Jury

This is funny 🙂

----
CALVERT COUNTY, Maryland -- An elderly woman who registered her dog to vote as a joke to prove a point about Maryland's election laws, could now face prison after her pet was unable to perform jury service.

Mabel Briscoe registered Holly, the dog, to vote in the summer of 1999 to prove a point about Maryland's elections laws.

Now the 82-year-old Briscoe has landed in court over registering her dog, and faces five years in jail or a $1,500 fine if convicted.

She is accused of wilfully and knowingly violating voter registration laws by falsifying a name and misrepresenting facts.

The issue came to light when Holly's name was drawn for jury duty in April of this year and Briscoe had to explain what happened. Briscoe, who admitted to elections officials two months ago she had signed up her dog, has been summoned to a July 20 trial, according to press reports.

"A lot of people are laughing about this, but she admitted to perjuring herself. At that point, there was nothing we could do except turn it over to the state's attorney. This is the only system we have. We cannot make a mockery out of it," said Gail Hatfield, Calvert County elections administrator.

Ohh yeah... don't do anything to Bill Clinton, but lets pick on little old ladies....

What a great system we have....

The republicans didn't spend 50 million dollars for the only purpase of making this old lady and her dog look bad.

He should have never been investigated in the first place. Just wasted money and thyme. If I had a nickel for every republican that cheated on his wife and lied about it...

Thyme, why don't you give me exhaustive list of the 30% of americans who would identify themselves as republicans and how they cheated on their wives. I'll be waiting.

This wasn't about cheating on his wife, it was about perjury among other things. Do I think he should've been impeached? No, they should have censured him and moved on.

Republican Wife Cheating Hall of Fame

It was about cheating on his wife. It was nobody but Bill and Hillary's business and if they didn't investigate him ad infinitum, he wouldn't have had the oppertunity to purjure himself.

I agree he's not a good person, but was a good president, and there's no reason for anyone to delve into his personal life for the sake if political possision.

She should have showed up in court with the dog, & stated that the dog was deaf &dumb, & needed her to perform it's duties.

What the hell does Bill Clinton have to with this? Please explain.

You mean besides the fact that your poster boy got off virtually scot-free for doing the exact same thing?

Except his was worse because he was the President, & he lied to the nation that elected him.

That makes him lower than the dog.

Most guys *DO* lie about it, and he would have just been lying to hilary if the republicans didn't use money investigating it for no selfless reason.

Why was the FBI involved in clinton's personal life?

What does the investigation do for the country?
With so many men cheating on the wives, why does clinton get so brutally attacked by it?
Why should he be impeached because of something in his personal life that does not involve the country? You can argue that it's the purjury, but the purjuy wouldn't be an issue if his personal life was not made an issue.

He wasn't impeached because he porked an intern with a cigar. If you want I'm sure you can find a whole lot more information on the actual charges of the case, just look around.

Thyme, did you look at the site I linked to? How can you argue there was no justification for the investigation.

What justification do you have for investigating his private life?
He was impeached for something that there was no justification for him ever having to have the opertunity to do! I know it wasn't right for him to either cheat on his wife or lie about it, but it's equally as wrong to make his personal life a federal issue.

Ok, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. In any case, legal investigations usually do involve people's personal lives. Please go read into some history on the case, we wouldn't have to go through this if you did.

Legal investigations involve a person's life, yes. However, I don't think cheating on your wife is illegal...immoral? wrong? yes, but not illegal, so why was he investigated so heavily and federally?

And while we're at it... let's not do anything to Ronald Reagan either. 😉
This makes me proud to be an American. I have the piece of mind of knowing that our elderly are being kept in line.
