I hope they had flood insurance...

Pat Campanella, left, and Affordable Towing and Recovery owner Devin Statts discuss how to get Campanella's SUV out of Katherine Peacock's pool in Hawai'i Kai. Campanella was giving his wife a driving lesson when she overcompensated and drove into the pool.

Looks to me like she DOVE into the pool not DROVE.

I wouldn't blame so much the woman who was driving it.

The article brings another topic: the woman had a learner permit. Who, in his right mind, would let a learner drive a brand new mammoth SUV? For crying out loud - shell out some money and send her to the driving school, where instructor has a double set of pedals. WTF?

Well, the cheapskates pay twice: buy a new SUV, pay for the pool evac and fixing up the lot, rising insurance costs - and finally a driving school.

Where the heck did you learn to drive? Everyone I know learned to drive in thier parent's cars, with learner's permits.

No wonder the drivers in this country suck so much.

I "learned" at driving school, because that allowed me to get my permit at 16 and my license at 17, rather than permit at 17 and license several months after. In reality, I learned on my parents' car, but they sure as heck wouldn't let me drive their SUVs, even after I got my license. Not that I would have wanted to.

How many times must we prove that women shouldn't be allowed to drive.

and it still amazes me why women pay cheaper insurance rates

They tend to not drive as fast, which lessens the average damage done when they do get into accidents (which is very, very often, frequently involving parked cars or other non-moving objects). Apparently this is enough to offset the higher number of accidents, otherwise men would pay lower rates.

i'm surprised that the vehicle doesn't show any signs of damage. That's kind of a tight spot to park in and not slam into the wall.

What pray tell, surreal universe do you visit us from where a Toyota Highlander is aptly described as mammoth?

Being small compared to other dangerous idiotmobiles.... erm, sorry, SUVs doesn't make it a small vehicle.

I learned how to drive in my parents' cars (one of which was an SUV), neither of which had an extra set of pedals. I never drove the car into a fscking pool. You have to be pretty slick to accomplish something like that.
