To appreciate his talents in a more underappreciated work, here are two of my preferred performances of the 19th Piano Concerto.

While the pianists background and styles are different, they are both effective, which is difficult for this work.

It is surreal, mysterious, haunting, soul stirring, and dramatic as hell in parts.

The first and second movement of his Haffner Serenade are straight fire. And the fact the text itself is lean for the second movement is only further amazing. I guess it makes sense a bit more love and care was taken, since was a friend's sister's wedding that it was written for

He probably played the violin part himself, and only those at that party would have heard the improvisations and liberties he would have taken as a soloist when playing the part.
