A game with a very taxing game engine for what it provides with respect to graphics when comparing to other game engines.
The inevitable changes between windows operating systems in Microsofts attempts to make windows more secure and more modern.
Always present errors in software.
Opengl that allows for the gameengine programmer a lot of room for interpretation of graphic functions.
https://www.opengl.org/documentation/extensions/

And on top of that gpu manufacturers who with every release of new hardware must solve not only their own backwards compatibility issues to keep every game running but must also solve the quirks of the game itself and changes under the hood of windows. And in the race for the performance crown must also create code that results in a game that runs as fast as possible without graphical artefacts.

It is not that black and white.

I have the dvd of the game condemned - criminal origins.
It does not run under windows 10.
I have acquired the steam version and that version actually runs.
I am just saying...

I was teasing, ATI and poor drivers were a running joke for many years.

You might be right after all. :)
I did some reading and found out how to get the game to run after renaming the WolfNewOrder_x64.exe . Now the name is not inportant. I named it blablah.exe. I then added it to steam as a non steam game. And no more crashes. I checked the radeon profile settings and there was no profile for this game. After i added a radeon settings profile, the game would crash after the intro videos with a similar exception error. After removing the profile again, and pressing play for blablah.exe inside steam, WolfNewOrder_x64.exe is executed again and the accompanying radeon settings profile is loaded again. With the crashes. This seems to point that there is definitely something going wrong when the radeon settings profile is created for the game.

edit: scratch that. blablah.exe is still executed, only in the steam program it says wolfenstein new order running.

Sigh, after creating the profile , the game will not run at all any more. Hopefully a reinstall will get the game up and running again.

It's good you got it working again with an old driver. It should't have to be that way. It seems as though AMD is perfectly content with leaving a game broken a few years after its release. If it's not a benchmark or a game just released, forget about getting a fix anytime soon. This is the number one reason I'm apprehensive about buying an AMD card again. I like older and newer games.

It sure seems that way, but many people just complain and that sure does not help in trying to convince a company that a driver solution is really appreciated. I can only hope and dream i made a difference by providing a step by step explanation about what is going wrong and that i have ruled out any chance that i caused the problem myself. And of course, showed the steam community thread with lots of people with similar complaints.
Although AMD makes good hardware and has good solutions other than just providing more raw computation power, i too wonder with this in mind how well future games will run and if i should buy AMD in the future.
But on the other hand, AMD is really trying to convince and support developers with dx12 and vulcan to provide games that run well on their hardware. If DOOM with idtech6 and vulcan is anything to show, than future wolfenstein games that may be based on idtech6 will be a lot of fun and no hassle.
For future and recent games, i still give AMD the benefit of doubt. Besides, my card is pretty new. It will be a while before i will buy another.

Glad you got it working. That was a pretty fun game to play, even with my lowly GTX 680 :)

In all honesty, there was in a thread in the steam community many moons ago a single person who mentioned that he or she got it working with that driver. And so i tried. I just traversed through the entire wolfenstein section for a weekend.

Figure I will pop this in here, as it the newest topic on this, but both The New Order and The Old Blood are on sale now at GMG for $10, or $8 if you are a VIP

I really enjoyed the single player in this game. Wish it lasted longer. Not sure about multiplayer.

Well, i finished the game. I took a trip on the wild side and i purchased the wolfenstein: old blood for 9.99 euro.
It is on sale this weekend on steam and the sale will end Monday.
For now, the game runs and fps is acceptable.

edit:

(Still on driver 16.9.2.)
