Wolfdale1333 sucks

VirtualLarry

No Lifer
I bought a Wolfdale1333 (ASRock) for a cruncher build. It claims support for FSB1333, and supports "Untied Overclocking" and "Hybrid Booster".

Among the features enumerated on the website, is a vcore adjustment. THIS IS A LIE. There is no vcore adjustment feature present on this mobo.

It also doesn't properly support FSB1333. The most I could overclock the FSB before the BIOS wouldn't POST, was 265Mhz. A far cry from 333. I was using an E2160, which at 265 was approx 2.4Ghz - easily doable on stock vcore.

I'm very disappointed, and angry at ASrock for promising but not delivering. This is probably going to be my last ASRock mobo. They all just mostly suck.

Click on "Hybrid Booster". Read.
"In order to provide advanced performance, the Hybrid Booster provides the CPU Multiplier, CPU Vcore voltage adjustment, CPU Frequency Stepless control, and AGP/PCI Frequency control features."

FALSE ADVERTISING BY ASROCK.

If they claim Vcore, then that's a lie.

The FSB1333 is a semi-truth. The chipset, 945GC, cannot support it "officially" but if overclocked it can. To get it to run at those speeds, you need to do a couple of things. You need to start with a chip that is FSB1066 or FSB1333 (FSB800 needs a BSEL mod). You need to set PCI-E to 115MHz. You need to increase the chipset voltage (the board does have that setting).

With a FSB800 chip, because of strap settings 265MHz is the highest you can go.

Regarding the FSB1333 support on a chipset not designed for it... Asus, Foxconn, ECS, PCChips as well as Asrock all make boards using the same chipset and with the same claims.

Cough Cough !! Blowjob ! Cough !

Yeah allot of misinformation comes from the east, well technically west..

They try to claim stuff to get sales, and then it vanishes... Foxconn Claimed their X38 would run SLI on the back of a box that was seen at CES or whatever the big Taiwan techshow is... but now the board is on the market, it is just like any other.

Unfortunately, this doesn't surprise me one bit.

I wouldn't get any chipset for Wolfdales other than P35/X38/X48.
