Never had any problems with Wolf ammo personally. I've only used it for plinking and had 1 failure to eject out of 800-900 rounds through my SA-XD. Winchester White Box is another good, cheap, brand of ammo for plinking.

I've got a target at home from when I first went to the gun range for handgun training - it tells you what you're doing wrong if you hit the target in a specific place (left, right, high, low, etc).
Your local range probably has these too - or I can post what each position means later tonight.

It depends on the rifle and the caliber.

the new polymer coated ammo isn't supposed to have that problem.

that would be good as out local ranges are just that, ranges. i don't know of any that let you rent guns or sell anything. in fact, when you go, the only other people there might be other shooters, if not, its just you.

i just shoot out in the back yard - one of the advantages of living out in the middle of nowhere.

at cabela's, the cheapest .45 fmj was a tie between wolf and some czech company, something and belloit, i think, at 12.99

winchester white box was like 16.99. i've bought that for my 9mm at dick's before and it was like $6-7 a box, not sure what .45 is since i just got my .45

there's another brand i buy sometimes but i can't remember what its called. Its 3 letters and i think the 1st letter is a C

I also find remington to be cheap sometimes

The CMP says the Wolf 30 Carbine ammo can lead to a bunch of problems in the M1 Carbine. My AR15's warranty is voided if I use steel case ammo in it I'm pretty sure.

As far as 45ACP goes, we've got a Dillon 650 for that, so I've never even considered shooting Wolf ammo.

The recoil from my 1911 never really bothered me too much. I notice it more on a Commander model.

Your 22 revolver can help with your trigger control. You need to perfect your technique with it, then apply the same principles to the 1911. I use this to analyze my Bullseye pistol league targets.

M1 Carbines have extraction issues with the Wolf due to the lacquered cases.

Hopefully there is some surplus ammo to go along with the M1s the CMP is going to be selling.

Pick up a copy of Shotgun News, plenty of places selling ammunition in bulk. I usually don't buy in quantities less than 1,000 rounds. It saves a lot of money for me in the long run.

Unfortunately it looks like I threw all of my old paper targets away a few weeks ago - including that training one. :(
It was a basic paper bullseye target but around the edges it had categories that told you what you did to end up there - squeezing thumbs, jerking trigger, anticipating recoil, etc.
Google & Google image search aren't being very helpful at the moment but I'll keep looking.

And from past searching of my own I saw a lot of people pointing to the white box ammo @ walmart... but that was typically 9mm and .40, haven't looked too hard at .45 guns/ammo.

Thank you!
http://www.reloadbench.com/pdf/files/TargetRightHanded.pdf - this one is closest but not identical to the one I was referring to... but it'll work. Basically you shoot a mag at the target and see where your groups lie. Correct as needed.

Yes, you're right. Although not as cheap, I thought it worth mentioning as another relatively cheap brand of ammo.

I need to learn a better way to hold my guns too, especially the .45 1911 because that thing has massive recoil. Out 14 rounds I shot the other day, i think only 8 hit the target.

I ahve similar problems with my 9mm and my .380 but not near as bad. I've been shooting guns for years but i still always flinch too.

Dry fire with snap caps, load only one chamber in a revolver cylinder and spin it so you don't know when you will get the live one at the range, etc...

Practice is the only way to get rid of it.

Thats pretty much how I learned to shoot. Used .357 with .38's, and empty chambers.

Is this the one you were thinking of? (I posted it a few posts back)

http://www.targetshooting.ca/docs/Pistol_Shot_Analysis.pdf

I've used Winchester White Box before, but not in great amounts so I can't really say much about it. It functioned just fine.

Ammoman (http://www.ammoman.com/index.htm) has Speer Lawman 45ACP for $280/1000 shipped. That's boxer primed, brass case, 230grain FMJ. I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not (it's $40 more than the Wolf, which would be worth it to me just because it's brass cased and reloadable). Cabelas is sometimes competitive on ammo, but not always. The advantage there is you don't pay for shipping.
