WOL through router

If you are talking about setting up a network through a router's built-in switch and wanna use wake on LAN, it is definitely possible... Setting up a network using a router is the same as setting up a network using any hub/switch...

But to use Wake on LAN, you need both a NIC and a motherboard that support that feature... you should also have a little cable that goes from the NIC to the WOL plug on the mobo... After that you need to enable WOL in the BIOS...

I am saying:
A computer on the internet sends a packet to my home computer, which is behind a router, to wake it up.

Behind my router I have the ip address of 192.168.0.4 and i also have a static ip for my router for both the lan and the wan. After the router I have no further firewalls.

If it will work at all, it will only do so if you forward the static WAN address to a port on 192.168.0.4.

Problem: the "magic packet" that signals the NIC is not an IP packet, and data that comes in from the internet is in the form of IP packets.
