There are only two things in this world that really make me twinge like a little girl. One being the thought of a tick making an abode out of my body and the other being the thought of housing a tape worm in my intestines. Well, this morning I narrowly escaped the first misfortune although I can't help but think that maybe last night his brother was more successful in making a living off of me. Little nasty Bastard's best not give me Lyme Disease!

i hope he doesn't give you sour green fruit disease either. :p

be on the lookout for a bullseye rash, but seriously your chances there are slim to none.

He probably won't, but he might give you lyme disease.

You'd notice pretty quick if you had a tick attached to you. Ever had to pull them off a pet? They're pretty freaking disgusting when they swell up to the size of a gumball, all full of blood.

Weird. Those things usually set up shop and camp out for a while...probably had it for a few days and it's just full. :)

I had one as a kid on my head. The doctor tried to use a cigarette (wtf this was like '82) to get it to remove it's nose, but he inadvertantly killed it and had to use a syringe to pop it's head out. Of course, now they just put a dab of vaseline on it and it detaches itself, but what did science know about ticks 20 years ago.

heh, there was one morning i woke up with a "growth" on my right butt cheek. I couldn't get a good angle on it, so i went to the doctor. He said "well huh, thats a tick" and got some tweezers and alcohol and took the thing out.

he said he did a lot of research on ticks at school and was happy to have a live one to check out and make sure there was no possiblity of me catching anything from it.

Good eye, I knew something didn't look right!

Yeah, I haven't had to pull them off a pet but I've had to pull them off myself on several occasions. I usually go for the needle and lighter approach which makes them back out for the most part and than use a tick removing tool which works pretty well as far as keeping the tick in tact.

I agree that it is odd; especially, after a sleeping for an entire night. I would consider that it had already camped out for a day or two but it did not appear that was the case as he was pretty small. However, he could have been camping out in my bed sheets for a day or two and just stumbled upon me this morning. There is really no telling b/c I have been outside in various wooded areas quite a bit the last three weeks.

I had never even seen a tick until 2 years ago. Then, one day while hunting, I had a couple dozen on me within 2 hours (got them off as fast as they arrived, left the woods early)

Last fall, on one particular day, it was crazy ticks everywhere. I quite counting after 50. Fortunately, I was covered from head to toes with clothing, most of them arrived on the mask on my face and were quickly flicked off. Quite a few made it under the mask though. AFAIK, none had dinner on me.

Its not a Lyme disease tick unless its real tiny-the size of a period. Regular ticks don't carry Lyme disease. Odds are if you could see it you're perfectly safe.

Ticks don't bother me any more-they are more of an annoyance than anything else. I just yank them off if I'm bit and never got an infection or any untoward results from this (did have Lyme once). My dog is a whimp though, and hides when his doggy brain figures out I'm doing a tick check and not just petting him.

Correct, only deer ticks carry lyme disease. If he was crawling on you, it means he never had a chance to attach. They do get gorged with blood, blow up huge and turn this greyish color, but that is only if they are on you for quite some time....you more than likely would notcie long before then.

When I was in Scouts back in the day I use to get them quite often. Usually they were just the little ones which I found pretty easiy to remove with the edge of a knife. One time, though, I did have one that was all bloated from his meals from me. He was in a rather 'interesting' spot that involved getting in the crevice between my leg and nether regions, so I actually did not notice it for days and days.
That was one big tick, scared the snot out of me. I remember he didn't want to let go and I, on accident, ended up ripping him off. Then I took some tweezers and my trusty knife to kind of dig into my skin at where he was in order to make sure I got the head out.

Ticks suck. ;)

I haven't had one on me (that I know of) in about ten years. A few years ago, I woke up in a hotel room in Florida with a two inch long cockroach crawling on my stomach. I didn't sleep much the rest of that night.

Bugs really don't bother me as long as they stay off of me. We have a cabin in the middle of the woods of ohio that seems to be the wild kingdom of bugs. We have ticks and chiggers which are fun but we also have wood spiders that seem to love our place. Damn things are the size of saucers, fast as hell, and seem to love to dive bomb us while we are sleeping.
