You mean, you will be able to download at 64kilobytes/sec?

That is roughly a 512k connection. Not bad. Much much better than dialup.

If you mean a 64kilobit connection, you will be able to download at about 8kilobytes/sec.. and that can hardly be considered broadband. :p But it will still be better than dialup, especially if it is 64k in both directions.

Here in the states, cable modems are generally either 3.0megabits down and 256kilobits up, or 1.5megabits down and 256kilobits up

3.0mbps = ~375kilobytes/sec and 1.5mbps = 187kilobytes/sec

256k = 32kilobytes/sec.

Of course, that's all before TCP/IP overhead, so your actual speeds will be a bit less.

Exactly. Not blazing fast but much better than dial-up any way you look at it. Enjoy your glorious broadband z0mb13 :)

Or 768kb / 128 kb.
Depends on who your provider is.
I've got Charter and I had 768/128. But I noticed the other day that I was getting faster downloads, then today I got my letter in the mail that they bumped everyone up to 2Mb down and 256Kb up. Woohoo. Of course, it is only supposed to last until like March. Then I assume they will try to charge me more if I want to keep that speed.

But for me, I don't even care that much about bandwidth. I'm a gamer, so all that matters is latency. As long as I can get pings of 50, I don't really care if I've got 768K or 5M downloads. But it does come in handy when downloading 3 Linux ISO's.
