woah....talk about over-selling

whoa!!!!
that's insane! i'm almost tempted to sign up... been thinking about having my own webspace for a while...

If they didn't charge a huge setup fee for a month, I'd sign up and see how much space they actually let you use.

if you sign up for 1 or 2 years there's no setup fee... just $6.50 or $7.50 per month depending on the plan...

They better be glad I am low on funds....a few hours of encoding + a few hours of uploading + a few hours of downloadign and they would be toast😀

http://dreamhost.com/hosting.html

200gb, 2TB bandwidth for $7.95/month.

i was about to post that 🙂

sad thing is people are using dreamhosts pricing for online backup comparisons. I'm trying to see if I should use mozy, carbonite, or amazon's s3... and then you have people throw out dreamhost... and they're the same ones who then talk about secuirty.. WTF

ok, say that I'm not paranoid about someone hacking in and downloading my pictures or music..would it be acceptable to use them for this purpose? i'm sure that they keep backups of their server side information, so the likelihood that I would lose my local backup and their server would die simultaneously would be low, assuming that they stay in business..

1. I wouldn't trust them as a backup service.

2. If you do (god forbitd) use an AES Encrypted volume masked as a ".log" file😀

why exactly are you so paranoid about hosting your backup on dreamhost?

For those of you signing up looking to pay the $6 or $7 per month that you want to, I hope you realize that not even 1% of the users on those 200GB plans will be using all that space. If you know that, you'd be better off spending your money with a more reliable host if you know you won't be using all that space.

Many people will go to one host because they get more space, but does it matter if you're not going to use it all? If you're only going to use 10 or 15 mb in the end, why not get a smaller plan with someone else who you can rely on?
