Have you not seen the movie or are you just that dense?

Yeah it was so obvious

What if he was an uncle or a distant relative? How the hell is it obvious? You'd think they would recognize him the first time around when they shoot at each other.

It was the prayer that tipped him off. So no, he didnt recognize them.

Yes, i get that from wikipedia, but what i don't understand is why they didn't recognize each other to begin with. If they explained they were abandoned by their father at an early age, i'd get it. Who the hell forgets what their kids/dad looks like unless they don't see each other for a long time?

Do they ever mention how long he was in jail for? How old are the bros supposed to be?
They could have done a better job explaining that.

They said he'd been rotting in the can for 25-30 years or something, which is right around the age of the guys.

What's the age of the guys (they look older than 25-30 to me)? They didn't visit him in jail? Why the hell didn't he have a name?

I don't know what to say, every person I've watched this movie with has made the connection themselves or made this comment "whoa, it's the dad".

As long as you catch the part about it being a family prayer, I think you get it.

As for all the details, I haven't watched it in over a year so I don't remember if there is anything about them not visiting him or not having a name.

Ok, maybe that's why i didn't get it (been a few years since i saw it)... i didn't catch the part where they said it was a family prayer... i thought maybe it was a common irish catholic prayer and they had thought Il Duce was a russian or italian mobster (and il duce thought the same) until they prayed.

Yeah, when the guy who looked like Jesus asked them to teach him the prayer, they said something about it being a family prayer, "passed down from our father, his father before him, that sort of thing."

My wife and I were watching it with another couple just recently... neither of the wives picked up on it. :(

-Their Italian friend wants to know the prayer (I forget if it's when they say it in the hotel or the strip joint). They say no, it's a family prayer.
-When the Russian asks for help, he's told that the guy has been locked up for 20 or 25 years. The boys are like 26.
-Their father was a hitman, and disappeared after getting it on with their mother. There's a scene where the mother says so, although it might have been in the deleted scenes.

On the topic of deleted scenes in that movie, if you haven't watched them, do it. The ones where they are talking to their mother over the phone are probably the most hilarious points in the movie and it makes me sad they cut them out :(

It had been established that he had been in prison or working for the mob for some time, his kids are mid-late 20s. If I were to pull some optimistic numbers out of my ass the last time he would have seen his kids they would have been in their teens, also not really something that you are looking at when shooting at someone.

Well, it was obvious to me and my wife. Perhaps you shouldn't have eaten those paint chips as a child.

Oh yes, sorry i'm not a master genius of movies and you and your ho wife. I could give a sh*t really.

It was freaking obvious, we can't help it you are incapable of realizing when a plot device slaps you in the face.

"your ho wife" - What's the matter...a little misogynistic because you can't get a date and are obviously quite dense?

At least now you know what that huge WHOOOSHING sound is that you hear every time you go and watch a movie.

wow...

you're the reason movies make incessant flashbacks to previous moments in the film because directors assume audiences are too retarded to get any references in real time

So this is a super old post but --- if you watch the deleted scenes from the first movie.... their mother explains the fact that their Da left when they where too young to remember. And they where 27-29. Years because they picked on eAch for 27 years (I think) about who was older.... their Da left because being a vigilant made it too dangerous to be around his boys... all that's explained via deleted scenes and the help of wiki before Da recognized them because of the prayer..
