You mean there's something OTHER than SDRAM?

And do any of you even get close to using 1gig????
I just upgraded to 1GB from 768, I was hitting my PF too much, and yes many-many games use 500-700MB by themselves.

Heck BF1942 was using ~700 when it came out, and it's not exactly new.

Ok , excluding games. I meant like productivly ?
My peak commit charge on my work laptop (100% work apps) is around 700MB. I keep at least 8 apps open at any given time, Outlook, web page that monitors our work queues, MMC with AD/terminal/SMS/GP Editor, call logging (help desk), call logging monitor (watches for web created tickets), firefox (4-5 tabs at any given time).

I didn't even mentions Word, Excel, VNC/SMS sessions, e-mail messages, and a few other one off apps I use.

That's 🙂
Size > Speed, I though you were old enough to know that. 😉

Nice to know someone actually uses their memory. Anyone else notice FireFox eating into memory a lot?

My desktop has been in the 1gb club for years. I got a new laptop this summer and it promptly joined the 1gb club.
Sadly enough in a couple of years I can see 1gb being the minimum to have a system operate reasonably.

I hereby recommmend a new word: gigaram. Its fun to say too. gigaram gigaram

Not as fun as "benchies" though. That's my fave cute-geeky word.

been at a gig for about 2 years now.

hell, even my notebook has a gig.

next big upgrade cycle (processor, mobo, ram, vid card) will probably get me to 2 gigs.

I have 512mb in my machine and it runs good. Does slow at times but I can live with it.

I'll upgrade later 😛

my next big upgrade is gonna be a dual CPU mobo, Dual CPUs and 2 + gigs

Well, I only have 768mb of RAM but it seems like enough. I think my 3.45GHz cpu and 580GB of storage give me a big enough e-penis! 😀

1 GB is about all you need for awhile........had it for about two years or so and dual lcds for about 6 months........dual lcd is the way to go.

i have dual 18 lcd, 1GB of ram for main rig. I could max out at 1.5 but can't use dual channel with 3 slots so the extra 512 just collecting dust. Labtop has 1GB also. It's a heavy mofo. Dell 9100
