how are they getting all of that pushed through a USB port? i though there were quality issues with regular TV signals going through a USB.

My prediction is that HDTV tuners will be HUGE for Christmas this year.

Thank you Nostradamus.....can you also predict tomorrow nights powerball numbers for me please. Seriously, I'll play them.

$ 129.99
that isn't too bad

but i can't OTA at home, i'd have to plug it in at work and then remote in and watch it or something 😕

OTA HD broadcasts are pre-encoded MPEG2 transport streams of up to 19.2mbit/sec. USB2.0 has plenty of bandwidth for that.

Just get a Fusion 5 USB. It's guaranteed to be better, cheaper, and the size doesn't really matter since you'll probably need a rather large antenna for good reception anyways.

Sorry, it's more expensive. I swear it was $100 when I bought mine. Comes with a free Silver Sensor-style antenna though.

That's OK but all I really want is a AM tuner! 🙁

It's called hooking up an AM radio to your line in.

Why don't they make these tuners for firewire? I usually have a usb harddrive on my usb port, and the firewire port just sits there unused. Every damn computer has firewire now.. come on.

Well you can do that with an AIW-HD.

AM rocks. Nothing like the warm sound of the big voice coming from a tube AM radio. 🙂

Back to the USB - LOL it has an F connector on it. Hooking an untamed run of RG6 to this will be futile as it will keep pulling the tuner out of the USB port! :laugh:

That pinnacle doesnt support QAM and is too new for any reviews. I just brought the OnAir hdtv GT for around 180 and should be here tomorrow. According to AVSforum, the Onair is highly rated, reconsider for Onair.

OnAir HDTV GT

The Hauppauge HVR-950 is a similar USB stick profile, just without the remote and MSRP is $30 less. The included antenna with the Pinnacle is better, but both of the included antenna are pretty useless if you're more than 10 miles from the broadcast towers.

ATSC worked well for me on both, NTSC had a channel scanning bug on both. NTSC thing should be correctable via driver updates.
