When I have a device connected to the 5 ghz band its works fine and I get 130mbps on speed test. However, on the 2.4ghz band I get max of 50mbps and this always changes to sometimes the connection being so slow nothing loads. I even tried putting my phone 1 foot away from the router and nothing changes. I need the 2.4 ghz band since most devices in my house don't supports 5ghz. Whats the problem?

Did you do a wifi channel scan to see what is the least congested channel to use?

I used to have one and it was fine with both bands. Are you using the latest firmware on it? You might also try unplugging it for a few minutes and let the power completely drain and see if anything improves.

You mention "phone". What phone. Also how is the WNDR4500 setup? Auto 2.4GHz?

A number of phones use only 20MHz on the 2.4GHz band. In most cases, especially if you have anyone near you, auto 20/40 on a router will set it to 20MHz on 2.4GHz.

So getting ~50Mbps sounds about right if you are getting 130Mbps on 5GHz.

2.4GHz can be very congested if you have a lot of wireless traffic around you, which can result in very slow connections, dropped packets, etc.
