WMV codec screwed up

Don't know if this is where I should ask this, but...

When I play videos encoded with WMV 8+ in WMP (in XP) the colors are all screwed up and the videos are unwatchable. I've tried reinstalling the codec as well as reinstalling WMP 9 (though I didn't remove the old one first) and its still screwed up. Any ideas? Other formats are fine, and WMV plays fine in Winamp or whatever else.
 
There are tons of threads on this, but: [re]install WMP10. If you use ATI drivers and that still does not work, uncheck WM DXVA acceleration in the driver options.
