WMP crashes

I've been having trouble with media player for awhile now. Pretty much whenever there is an embedded video file on a webpage it'll crash the browser, and if I try to open the file from the web in normal media player it crashes too. However if I download the file I can watch it just fine. I was ignoring it for awhile but now it's starting to annoy me. I tried reinstalling WMP and it didn't fix it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

hey, is the crash in internet explorer or firefox when you see a video file?, but since it crashes without being in a browser linking directly, try reinstalling windows since it can be corruption somewhere in there causing it.
 
It happens in both Firefox and IE. I'd rather avoid reinstalling windows, but I guess it is getting about the time to format again.
