Someone posted and I paraphrase...
Every selection board list is checked for "demographics" to make sure the numbers are right.

I have seen the "zone" expanded and or contracted to include "a reasonable expectation of advancement based on the merit of the orders to accomplish a predetermined level of achievment" what ever that may have meant...

UQ,
Re: the breakdown of the military by race (your linky).

It's about what I figured. Minorities are at least as represented in the military as they are in the general population. The question is, however, and as Moonbeam pointed out; Are the folks in the military advanced, as a rule, based on merit and is this condition marginally or significantly different than in the population in general (excluding the DoD)?

Every Navy selection board list is checked for "demographics" to make sure the numbers are right.

I'll discuss this particular matter no further.

You claim to know much about the workings of government UQ. And you make veiled suggestions about things you can't talk about as though they're some "top secret." How do you know so much? What exactly is your "government job"?

You wouldn't be lurking the forums for you boss, would you UQ?

It's fairly common knowledge around here that I am on active duty - Navy.

The people who died in New York City and Washington aren't the people who should have got what they deserved.

And just who are the people you refer to as "The same people who think we got what we deserved on 9/11"?

I don't understnd your first sentence. Are you implying that someone "deservred" what happened on 9/11.
There were some people who were clearly glad about what happened 9/11. Al Queda, their supporters, people were shown dancing in the street, etc. Those are the people I'm talking about.

Active duty.............Pentagon? Naval intelligence? Or a sailor?

I'm implying that the people who knew 9/11 was coming and let it happen deserved to have it happen to them.

In my opinion the US military does a better job of seeing to it that women and minorities are treated equally as any other org in the world.

There can be no doubt that the pay of all equal ranked personnel is the same regardless of race, creed or gender.

We don't know they knew. All the info is secret. We do know that Rice was not factual when she said they could never have imagined an attack by planes. There were report on that posibility.

I believe it goes well beyond that. You got merit you go up. But what do I know. I heard it on the radio. :D

You bet.. the top will always be the top.. where it does fall short is the marginal fellow or gal who gets a positive fitness report when an equally marginal person gets a bit less and and gets that bit less because of the need to accomodate the expectation of military fairness and dictates. That's what I heard anyhow..:D

Active duty.............Pentagon? Naval intelligence? Or a sailor?

Spent most of my time onboard subs. Doing something different now. Getting ready to retire.

It wouldn't of been a pretty good reach to take what we knew prior to 9/11 and come up with a scenario that we could have reacted to or prevented. It's a lot easier to connect the dots now because we know what the picture is gonna look like. Obviously there were are some things that are/need to be addressed. I don't think we're doing a very good job addressing them. IMO.

That explains it. My best friend spent 8 years on subs. He was a crazy young man when he enlisted. After 8 years underwater his early years looked positively sane.

We're not doing any better job now than we did before 9/11. Only difference, Patriot Act I and maybe II. Government takeover of the Bill of Rights. In the meantime airline security guards and air marshalls are being laid off due to budget constraints (due mostly to the two irresponsible Bush tax cuts). And I just watched an account of the security measures used while boarding aircraft. Baggage inspection, personal searches etc. while air cargo is loaded on the same flights without any inspection whatsoever. It's all a scam. False security so the airlines can remain solvent. Just a matter of time until the next tragedy.

Not to mention the millions of cargo containers entering US ports yearly without even the most cursory inspection.

Homeland Security my A$$. The Bush administration just used 9/11 to advance their own agenda and to hell with security for the average American.

Just how many blacks live in Utah? Is it racist to burn chemical weapons there? Does the government have something against Mormans?

Let's get back to the point of this thread. The Bush administration sold us this war (invasion) on the lie that Iraq had WMD. There is no WMD in Iraq.

But we did find the WMD. The WMD is here. Is the Bush administration going to attack Utah and Alabama?

Hypocrites. We are the world leader in WMD and nuclear weapons. Yet we use WMD as an excuse to invade Iraq which had NONE.

Russia, whose 40,000 tons of chemical weapons is the world's largest stockpile....

Try reading the article before starting your usual baseless bashing.

The US nuclear and chemical arsenal is the largest in the world. Period. We are the largest arms seller in the world. Period.

Where's the WMD in Iraq?

Anniston does qualify as middle of nowhere especially when they started stockpiling the weapons there in the 50's and 60's. Anniston was chosen due to its proximity to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville AL. Redstone has been the center for most of our missile work both for NASA and the military for over 50 years. When most missile testing moved to New Mexico, the dumping stopped however the chemicals dont dissapear overnight.

And since race is such a big issue to everyone...
I must add that Redstone was also originally used as a chemical weapons dump in the 50's and we are going through some of the same problems as Anniston to an extent.

Although our demographics dont paint the same picture that the author wanted to potray...

No one seems to know what Saddam did with it. That was one of his violations of the UN resolutions, the lack of record keeping on what happened to it all. You should know that by now.

We are doing better it's just probably not good enough. Of course every time someone tries to implement real security people start screaming about privacy and inconvenience. Please link to show where either security or air marshalls have been laid off. The rest of the paragraph is just your normal ignorant rant.

Not to mention the millions of cargo containers entering US ports yearly without even the most cursory inspection.
Very hard problem. Please bring your security expertise to bear and solve it for us.

Heh...this I have never understood. It's not like Homeland Security was this new idea; it had been floating around for years before it came to fruition in March.

It's good now that you are changing the topic of the thread to something other than the article you linked to, it helps eliminate confusion.

The US and Soviet Union both had/have large stores of chemical weapons. All will be destroyed before the end of the decade. They were produced at the height of the cold war before the nuke stockpiles had reached large numbers. The chemical weapons are leaking and dangerous and MUST be destroyed for everyones safety.

You can try to change the topic of this thread if you want but it's rather pathetic.
