WLAN Equipment

I was at a Cisco wireless presentation today. I was hoping to verify a couple of points they kept pushing.

1. Cisco has the only APs that use a full 100mW and other use about 40mW.
2. Cisco is the only company that doesn?t use static encryption keys.
3. I need a wireless tech to come to my building and run tests to determine where to put APs. I cant just move one or two around to find the best placement.

I recognize that Cisco does have some good equipment, but it is my experience that they are generally quite arrogant and sell over priced equipment.

What do you guys think?

With network gear, you get what you pay for, big time. Cisco is among the most expensive, but it's also among the best. You want Cisco, Juniper, etc. you're going to pay, but you know you get the best around. Not only that, the Cisco TAC is the best support org in the business, hands-down, IMHO.

The Cisco AP's are the ONLY one that I'd recommend for corporate use on the market right now. Their proprietary dynamic WEP key is a great thing - It's the only one that I know of that can't be penetrated by AirSnort.

Not sure about the "must come to your site and do a survey", but their service is generally top notch. If they are going to charge you for it, then you should probably take a pass, but if they are doing it as a freebee, why not!
