I'd love to see a reboot of the wizard of oz done right. The book is much darker than the silly musical- lots of killing, strange overtones, long periods of failure before Dorthy finally figures out the secret to killing the witch.

It would make for an amazing darren aronofsky movie. Some eerie soundtrack by clint mansell, rated R with all the blood and violence in full glory.

Actually come to think of it wizard of oz and requiem for a dream are pretty similar stories.

raping of the witches
thats why they turned wicked

Is Wizard of Oz even well known overseas? I can see it maybe breaking even in the States but I don't know how it would do elsewhere.

Let's all say a moment of thanks to God that Tim Burton isn't fvcking this one up.

And also Mila Kunis.

I actually have little interest in wizard of oz overall but I am positive it's a MUCH more known story than John Carter, which I am also positive 95% MINIMUM of the population had never, ever heard of.

"Return to OZ" isn't one of the 14 stories. Maybe why it sucked?
I think the show you're thinking about was called Tin Man.

The first 20 minutes of Return to Oz was fucking awesome. I was a young kid when I saw it. And it's the only movie that scared me so much it gave me nightmares.
After the sanatorium scene, it went to shit. Except the witch's head collection. That was creepy.

They combined two or three of the books to make Return to Oz. I liked the movie but the Wheelers scared me when I was little.

Mostly, I'm really depressed that NO ONE has read any of the other stories. Fricken illiterates!

I read most of them when I was much younger, but I sure as hell don't remember much of them. Rather like the Narnia books.

Could be interesting, but I'd prefer it with a lot less CGI.

I enjoy watching Return to Oz because it's creepy and distopian and I love distopia. Also, Fairuza Balk is awesome.

Tin Man was also really good and definitely worth a watch or two.

If they could combine good writing with the mood and setting from those two movies, a new Oz movie could be awesome.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen a professional production of Wicked...it's definitely worth the money.
