Wiz For Elite?

Ok my thread there was locked without comment. I frikkin HATE how they leave no comment. The question remains - so WTH has happened then?

I have no idea. 🙁 I cant think WHY it would be against the rules - after all if such threads ever go elsewhere people complain that it is not in Forum Issues! I feel that the lock is just a flat 'no' to the request, particularly as there was no comment.

I am so close to posting something I will regret. I always post with polite conduct around here, and I consider myself to be (at least in part) a useful contribution here and I feel that I deserve an explanation. :|

I don't think this was a "NEGATIVE LOCK". If you notice it is not only locked but it is pinned to the top of the forum. 🙂

That means the MODs think it is worthy of people seeing. I view that as a very positive move on their part. Look again and I think you'll agree.

/MODs are very sparing with their messages/ Ha LOL 😉
 
Agreed that it is somewhat positive as it has not been removed, however the thread is not a sticky, and it not pinned to the top of the forum as I can tell.

As new threads appear, it will fall.

It looked that way just before I posted but you are right because another thread is now above it.

I just read the Forum Issues FAQ and the only thing that might apply is:

9. Sometimes a moderator will delete a thread, other times they will lock it, and leave it to delete later. Locked and left up usually means that we want other users to have a chance to view the thread to get an idea of what is/is not allowed.

I just searched the Forum Issues archives and there are five other threads with a similar spin. Three of those are locked and the other two go back to late February and early March. It could also be locked because it is a thread in another forum ... this one.

Anyway there wasn't a warning or scolding so I wouldn't take too much offense. Like I said earlier the MODs don't always post or remark as to why this or that is done. I'm sure they do that so they don't get dragged into the whys and wherefors of each locked thread.

I'm glad to see WIZ has gotten several more YES votes! 😀

I think they generally lock stuff in FI as soon as they've taken action on it. You'll notice that even very helpful threads, such as reporting unacceptable Forum behavior (warez'ing, pr0n, etc) get locked once the matter's been dealt with. Could be they've put the matter up amongst themselves for consideration.

But it's not because I think Wiz doesn't deserve to be Elite. 😉 I have yet to hear Wiz say that he wants to be Elite, and we have had people decline the title before. 😉

No, I voted the way I did so that there would be one dissenting opinion for the record; but I have absolutely no idea who the other 5 bozos are! 😕
 
I'm a bozo.

I think this honor is for exceptional contributions to this forum. While WIZ has far and away been Elite off this site helping with web devlopement and hosting for the TeAm, I don't believe that the Mods should have to award him for things not done on this forum. If he gets it though I'm cool with that also.🙂

Mainly because I see people who go out of their way to help any of us here Elite.
Also, as we do get a fair few new members, it's good to have a number of Elite members around that they can go to help with, discuss problems etc. (outside the board, that is).

Not belittling anyone else -- I'm a generous person and if I had it my way I'd have lots of you guys Elite. But as this topic has been raised, I believe he should get a yes, and continue to help out TeAm Anandtech with an Elite level 🙂😀
 
I've been told that Wiz does a lot of things that he is too humble to let people konw about. Maybe someone could share some these things to help Wiz's cause.🙂
 
I don't remember the exact thread or the exact problem, but the first encounter I remember of Wiz (right after I joined the SETI TeAm about 10 months ago) was that he took a problem to the PM area with another TeAmmate and spent the better part of a day at it...but solved it..!!! : D ...sorry I don't remember the details!

I think it would be an honor to see Wiz as Elite....and a travesty if he isn't!

Wiz....you're Elite in my book...regardless of title...you're a great TeAmmate...and I thank you for being here! 🙂
 
I have seen many threads where Wiz has provided technical support to others. I think he has been occupied lately and hasn't been on the board as much, but I think if the mods search back they will see an extremely helpful forum member who deserves our support!
 
I'm never a big fan of these "so-and-so for Elite" threads. I think that PM's and emails are better. Other than a nice pat on the back, I don't see what the big deal about Elite is anyways and I've always thought that the Admin and the Mods know who is contributing (they need a little nudge to remind them sometimes, that's why PM's are OK).

Making public threads like this can lead to hurt feelings - both from the posts in the thread and if the "title" isn't given.

I personally can't think of anything that Wiz has written or done that stands out from many of the other posters here and I read the forum every day. That doesn't mean that there hasn't been contributions made, just that they haven't made an impression on me.
