My wife and I were coming home on Saturday night when we witnessed a hit and run. We were driving through the parking lot of our apartment complex. We turn the corner and are driving through the rear parking area when this truck comes hauling ass (probably 35-40 mph) around the corner in the opposite direction. I didn't see this, but my wife said that the driver was talking on a cell phone.

Anyway, this genius swerves to avoid us, goes flying past us and SLAMS into a parked truck about 30 feet away from my car, then backs up and smashes into another car (Ford Focus) parked next to the truck they just ran into. They then proceeded to take off. My wife and I were in shock at this point, but we hurried down the other side of the complex as quickly as we safely could and caught up with the truck at the entrance to the apartment complex, since they had to stop behind someone. We were able to write the license plate down and get a description of the truck as well as the driver's general appearance (it was a woman from what we could tell, but we didn't get a good look at her face although my wife saw her profile).

We drive back to the scene to survey the damage. A bunch of people are out there by this time and one of them is on the phone to the police. There's broken glass all over the place from the broken taillights and it turns out that the truck that originally got hit got PUSHED into a Ford Explorer next to it. Of course both vehicles are dented to hell, although the Focus is in better shape. What was really fscked up was that the Focus that got backed into was brand new (the owners had just gotten it two weeks ago). Broken taillight and big dent in their bumper. :(

Cops show up and we give them the information we've got and go home. Haven't heard anything from them as of yet (they said they might be calling us to identify the driver in a lineup) so we don't know if they caught the driver and they confessed or they never found them, etc. In any case, we're glad that no one got hurt and especially glad they didn't hit us....

good job writing down the license plate. I would've took a picture with my phone camera. but then again I wouldn't have remembered that I had a phone camera because I never do....

she should be dragged behind the cars she hit, over the glass she broke as punishment.

She was probably scared to death, that's why she tried to run. Either way, that's no reason to leave the place of an accident.

<-- Has been the victim of hit and run before.

NARC! :p

Just kidding of course. Good to see some people doing something to help.

You, sir, deserve a Good Citizen Beer. If you're ever in Raleigh, look me up and I'll buy you a beer! Hell, I'll buy you a case.

People like that should be put in jail for a long time and THEN loose their licence after they get out. :|

actually i'd say that really is a big shot you douche, most women wouldnt have the cajones to take off from an accident. Not that most decent men would either, but unless she was on the run from something life threatening or on drugs it wouldnt be likely. If she was just driving along and happened to crash into a few cars, then took off, I'd personally beat her to death with her own cell phone if I was given the chance.

Something similar happened to me a couple years ago. I was crossing the street between the two buildings of the company I worked at (in Atlanta). Some guy peeled out of a parking lot into the street, hit a car that just driving down the street, bounced off, and then sped off. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. But the car went right by me, so I quickly memorized the license plate and then ran down the sidewalk to the rammed vehicle. The vehicle was a beat-up old Explorer with some total trailer trash inside. No one was hurt. I gave one of the women inside the Explorer the numbers and showed her the building i worked in if they needed me for anything else. The woman (who was middle-aged but the years had not been kind) was obviously drunk or on drugs, but she had not been driving. The woman then asked me for a date and basically propositioned me. I told her I didn't think my girlfriend would like that and quickly walked back to my building.
Sorry for the really long post but this thread just reminded me of my own odd hit-and-run story :)
