Without its allies, could the UK defend itself against Germany? Yes they can!

Doesn't matter. Without its allies (U.S.), the UK, along with Germany and the rest of Europe, would have been part of the Soviet Union.

Russia had a great late war machine, partly due to it's cannibalization issues and not necessarily *home grown* equipment

No nukes and no external powers meddling would mean German domination of Western Europe if war broke out. I doubt they could take the British Isles without one hell of a bloodbath, but they should be able to take out the rest of Western Europe. They have an excellent military-industrial complex and the largest economy in Europe.

They managed to defeat Russia (in part by allowing Russia to defeat itself) in WW1 (see the "peace" treaty that they forced them to sign). They would have done so again in WW2 if not for several critical errors. One would be starting a war on another front with Britain unsecured (by treaty or by occupation). Another would be the rapid changing of objectives after the invasion (do we want to take the oil fields or do we want to turn certain cities into great reservoirs?). Another would be not winning over the people oppressed by the Soviets in the wake of the invasion, but Nazis will be Nazis, I suppose. It is far more complicated than that, just some highlights.

Just as long as we get to fuck up New Zealand, I am all for it.

France already has...

Opération Satanique was an operation by the "action" branch of the French foreign intelligence services carried out on July 10, 1985.

It aimed to sink the flagship of the Greenpeace fleet, the Rainbow Warrior in the port of Auckland, New Zealand

I've always thought Hitler was a mad man. He really wasn't interested in conquest, he was interested in stroking his own damn ego, and I think the people that tried to assisinate him realized that. That may also explain why he seemingly sabotaged Rommel by recalling him to Germany when he had the site of the actual D-Day invasion pegged correctly and by not giving him adequate supplies.

People blame Hitlers ineptness and his generals lack of courage to confront him, but I think Hitler was deliberate at some point to destroy Germany. That point might have came when we realized that it might have been easy to conquer new territory but impossible to occupy it without killing most all the prior inhabitants. Pure evil.

It's the entitled generation. Living off of the victories of others, getting promoted for doing nothing, earning Nobel Prizes for talking...

This is like asking "without foreign intervention, could the South rise again?" They're both part of the EU and have been for some time. They're buddies, and they're way more interdependent now than in years past (just like the rest of the world).

If Britain wasn't so firm on alliance with France, I think Germany would have made an alliance with the Britons. After all the British were part of the Aryan race just as the Germans are.

This should have been a WW2 question. When "Conventional" weapons were the only choice. Britain has Nukes now and would certainly use them, so the question is moot.

Upon seeing this thread, a spokesman for HM Queen Elizabeth II was quoted as saying, "We do not respond to such foolish speculation." 🙁

How the hell can you say that?

Theres still France, Spain & Italy left and shit load of other countries left.

you are kidding right? USSR won the war in Europe. Allied got lucky that Stalin didn't push their forces back into the sea.

don't bother trying, american education quite forcefully taught them that the US singlehandedly won the war.

as far as i'm concerned the americans/british won the sea, americans won the skies, and the soviets won the land

But it wasn't the Russian forces that turned the tide against the Nazis it was the Russian winter. Otherwise Moscow might have fallen to the Panzers.

It would be very hard for Germany to take on UK directly. Air force don't win wars and the UK navy + air force is formidable. There is no way Germany can land in UK without getting its soldiers gills to swim there.

Logistics wins wars. USSR knew how to handle permafrost, Germany did not. End game.

USSR would have fared a lot better if Stalin wasn't in command. Fucker gutted his own military command.

It's not like Hitler didn't have history to look back on. I mean for crying out loud, he pulled a Waterloo!

EDIT:WTF, my English is broken today.

The Soviets were at a signifigant strategic disadvantage by the end of the war since the US had the bomb and they did not. Not to mention the enormous air and naval superiority the US enjoyed at the time.
