Withholding pay?

Does an employer have the right to "hold back pay" for your first pay period (2 weeks)? After 3 weeks of working, I got paid for just 1 week. This never happened to me before in any of my previous jobs. It's a temporary, full-time position.

they can't hold any money due to you. However in you case it doesn't sound like they may be holding it, you might have started on the 2nd week of the pay period, and there for you got paid for that one week, next pay period you will get paid for 2 weeks, and all will be fine.

it's like this.

i started on a monday. the thursday of that week was pay day. i didn't get paid then, but i wasn't expecting to.

fast-forward 2 weeks...

it's thursday again, but checking the slip reveals i've only gotten 1 week of pay.

my prediction is that for the next pay-day, i'll just get the "normal" 2 weeks worth of pay.

SO, i'm missing 2 weeks of salary from the beginning.

anyways, it was one of the supervisors who said they're holding 2 weeks of pay. what i really want to know is, where's the legality in this!

nothing illegal about it. that's just how some places work. when i started working at my current job, i started at the beginning of the pay period, i didnt get paid until a month later.

my last job paid for the current pay period. and just added overtime / time off on the next paycheck.

Youve been there 3 weeks and got a paycheck for one week it sounds like. That is pretty normal... when you leave youll get a 2 week paycheck or so and it evens out... paychecks are always delayed some... mine are 2 weeks, the payperiod ends on a wensday and I get paid the next thursday.

The pay period sometimes lags... for example, you would be getting paid for the two weeks prior to the current two weeks on the next two weeks so just wait two weeks.
