With warmer days here .. who has been speeding????

<SPAN class=postbody>I nearly hit a ton today on the freeway. I was getting home from work and on the 134 East (from pasadena -> glendale). There is a stretch of about 3 miles with no entrances or exits. Anyway I found myself in 5th gear doing 85.. so I switched to 6th and next thing I know im nearly hitting 100.

I slowed down as soon as I noticed. Boy had I got a ticket it would have really sucked and if I was over 100 I woudl have my licence revoked.

How the heck do I stop myself from speeding so fast. I mean this morning I was doing 65 in a 35 on the way to school.

Once i noticed it I slowed down. Some how the engine power + the sound and the feeling of constant pull makes me want to go faster and faster...

damn it I hate this.. I dont want to blemish my almost perfect driving record ( I have one accident at fault - when i did the solo drop / crash when i first got the bike ).

Well once you get your first ticket you can usually get it dropped through PBJ. The second one you are screwed for though.

No. I speed exactly 10 miles over the speed limit EVERYWHERE, except in housing areas 😉

You can get it dropped of you're record, technically, but really it might as well still be there. The ticket is gone from your record but your record will reflect the class you took to get out of it. The insurance companies read this the same was as a ticket. I hope I'm remembering this right since it's been about a year since I was told this by a lady I know who's an agent for state farm. Of course, it might differ from state to state also. Worth checking out though.

What do warmer days have to do with anything?

yes On my bike it does. Its jetted lean (and extra lean for CA bikes) so in cold weather it runs a bit like crap because of more air and less fuel in the system, but on hot days it becomes equal and the air to fuel ratio is perfect or nearly perfect to give a whole differnet feeling of power.

I need to rejet but we are yet to have a suitable solution to rejetting the 2001 and beyond bikes. The 2000 and below bikes have a good solution. I can use the DynoJet / Factory Pro solution but its freaking expensive. The kit costs about 100 bucks. Not worth it in my books and you still have to "fine tune". The 2000 and below models are pretty much on the dot in terms of how many times you got to turn that mixture screw.

Get a truck. That somehow fixed my desire to speed. What's the point?

um, I went from an 89 Mustang (ok, it was a 4-banger, but still) to a 97 Dodge Ram, and my top speed increased by 30mph

bad, bad thing

I didn't say it would be slower, just that you wouldn't have the same desire to speed. At least I don't anyway. You're talking to a guy who's got about 7 speeding tickets to his name so I have done plenty of it. Truck cured me though. Well, that and seeing my ins drop as the tickets dropped off 😛

Don't cops usually pull more people over during the end of the month? I've seen a lot more people being pulled over in the last few days, so I've been driving at the speed limits.

I found out a couple days ago that current generation civics have fuel cut off at 110.

Depends on the branch I'd think. Like I know for a fact that here in oregon state cops don't have ticket quotas. Sherrifs and city cops I'm not sure about but I'm sure that some branches have quotas. Could be wrong though. Personally I've never noticed any increased ticket activity near the end of the month.

I managed to get my 02 Civic up to just under 120mph. I was doing it on a patch of road that had some small hills in it.. and I think if I was on flat ground, I could have got it higher.

Maybe the dont limit as low in Canada.. or perhaps its a very stuble fuel limit where it just allows enough fuel for the car to keep a constant speed at the max?

Edit: The_good_guy is sounding more and more like Jerboy everyday. Very anal about such small issues. How much longer till he starts publicly questioning his sexuality here..?

Canadian model? Are you sure you converted to mph right? *ducks* 😛

It was in an 01 auto LX. When the needle passed 110, got the lurching forward and loss of power thats typical with cutoff.

Yea, I actually went out and looked at the speedometer just to be sure 😀

It was about 195km/hr i believe.

Three years ago, just for a giggle during my commute one morning I kept up with a Cadillac STS. I looked my speedometer and saw I was doing 115 mph. I slowed down right away and now I always keep an eye on my speed.
If a cop had caught me at that speed would be getting out of jail about now.

😕

It still shouldn't make a difference on how fast you're going, even if it's jetted lean.

Don't burn your engine up, heh. In general, an engine's performance will decrease 1% for every 10 degrees above 60F.. assuming optimal tune in the first place.
