With the new pricing structure, is the Opty 165 worth $30 over the X2?

I plan to buy a DC processor at the end of the week, so I'm wondering if the Opteron 165 is worth $30 over the X2 3800? I do plan on overclocking, so I'm leaning to the 165 at this point...

unless the opty 165 reaches the price of a X2 4200+, the opty 165 will always be worth it over the X2 3800+.

One other possible advantage of the 165 is it comes with that surprisingly good heatpipe cooler instead of the standard A64 cooler (included with the 3800), which should be good enough for moderate overclocking.

I already have a XP-90 on my 3200 (which I guess I'll have to sell :p), but I guess I can throw the Opteron cooler in with that when I sell...

What exactly makes the Opteron better than the X2 cpu's?

XP-90...nice heatsink there...I have the XP-90c on my 4400+ and runs very cool. Never had time to overclock it yet...but would have plenty to do it with as cool as it runs with that HS.

The new heatpipe Opteron coolers perform about the same as the XP-90.

The old story... :)
1) 2x1MB 2nd level cache also in the "slow" versions (aka 165/170)
2) Due to being server processors higher quality silicone and hence more likely to be overclockable like hell :D

Which I already paid for (along with a 92mm fan), so I'll just keep using the XP-90 instead... :p

This is pure speculation, no one actually knows that this is true right...

It's SILICON, not SILICONE. Big difference. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.
