With eVGA 6800 series step up??

I heard if you buy an eVGA 6800 you can upgrade to GT or Ultra later for only the price difference. Is that true cuz that would be amazing. 🙂

It's true and it's good for 90 days. That means you can get the 6800 now, and if you decide you want to pony up for the GT or ultra just pay the differnce+shipping.

I believe it is just to LYK that since the Ultra is so hard to fill orders for, that you may have to wait longer to get it, so they will honor your trade up even if the 90 days has passed provided you put your name "in the hat' in that period.

Good deal right now, but when these hit wide distro paying MSRP difference will be less worthwhile.

Yup, you're right after reading the FAQ. You can up to any EVGA.com card. Cool.

Sure, it will depend on the MSRP of the card you trade up to, but at the same time they'll buy your card back at full retail you originally paid, so it certainly could work out. At least its a possible option down the road.

Well, certainly better than the ATI trade-up program. 🙂

Right on. Also, from my perspective $300 for the 6800 w/FarCry is a good deal regardless so you can't lose. The real question is, if you do trade up by mid-october, do you have to return FarCry or is it your free gift to keep? If not, will you be getting D3 bundled for free with the GT or ultra by then? 😛

I also don't see the GT or Ultra being widely available for less than they sell for now by mid-october. I would speculate that if D3 is indeed here the beginning of August that demand for the r420 and nv40 cards will increase even more, and should that occur, then the simple dynamics of supply&demand make it unlikely these cards prices will drop more than 10-15% from the current MSRP, with the exception of that occassional "you snooze, you lose" hot deal. I'd say this is a "strike while the iron is hot" promotion that let's you try the current low end nv40 offering and still upgrade to the GT or Ultra when they are more readily available for purchase without having the 6800 depreciate in value in the meantime. It may even provide 2 months of a better D3 experience to boot, but that's purely speculation at this point.

Card must be returned with all original materials and packaging, failure to do so will result in a 15% restocking fee.

You'll have to return it according to the FAQ. Hopefully, you send retail box in..they send retail box back.

I actually purchased a 6800NU from eVGA, and emailed them over this very question. I asked if I had to include the free copy of Far Cry in order to "step up" to a GT in a couple of months (which I plan on doing). Otherwise, I planned on selling it since I already had bought a retail copy.

Their reply:

You will need to include all software and hardware bundled in the package when return the product to us or you will be charged. You can only use the Step-Up Program once per video card and have 90 days from the purchase date to use the Step-Up Program.

eVGA.com Customer Service

Wow this sounds great... play now and avoid the price gauging going on in the marketplace. I will try and call customer service on Monday.... does anyone know if this would apply for someone buying a GT now and trading the card in 3 months later for an Ultra Extreme?

I am building a new system now (first time) and the only missing piece to my dream system is the video card (XT PE or Ultra / Ultra Extreme). EVGA's msrp for the Ultra Extreme is $550, only $150 more than the GT?

Hmmm??? 😛

I'm just wondering what they do with the "old" cards people traded in? I mean they're only 90 days old at most, but can't be sold as new. Any deals on these slightly used cards? 🙂

They will re-sell them. One of the main notes in the terms and conditions is that you have to return everything in resellable condition. That's why they want everything back like you bought it.

It's really a win-win for the company and consumer.

Yeah, supposedly they sell them on their marketplace website at a discount 😛

Any news from you guys on if this would work with a GT model going to an Ultra Extreme?

if you can't finish Far Cry in 90 days you probably suck at it. 😛

😀
