With cars, how much more is the invoice price than the dealer price?

It varies.. though, technically invoice is supposed to be what the dealer paid for it, right?

I think it might vary quite a bit. Dealers that sell X amount of cars per month have much higher prices than dealers that agree to sell 100X cars per month..

Listen to a former car dealer... invoice is the dealer price. They may get holdbacks and volume incentives but these are designed to help finance the cost of holding the inventory and are not easily given up by most dealers. Just make sure that when they quote you invoice price that it is indeed the invoice price. ;)

I should write a friggin book on how to buy a car, lol.

It depends on the car. Some cars have a greater markup than others. SUV's have a high markup than a Honda Civic.

Thats why I want to know what the dealer price is. I'm going to be working for a car company soon and I can buy their cars for below dealer price.

They probably have a website or something you can use to check on what you'll pay for different cars. I get discounts from Ford, DC (Congrats again), and one other company and I've got a website I can use to look at the discount pricing.

Before the great big Internet, invoice prices were harder to come by for the regular consumer. So dealers were able to "sell" you a car their way. Now they don't have much to hide behind. They practically whip out the invoice price for you to see that they are barely making a profit...
