EDIT: And my other computers run XP w. built in firewall...

This is pretty foolproof, I can't even access my own network 😛

you could if you had the right routing and iptables rules 😉

Oooh, so I need to put them on a table... :Q😛

we are behind a bunch

we have a box running smoothwall, then it goes into a router, my comps are both running Kerio Personal FW and Kaspersky AV, i think steve runs a FW on the windows box and doesnt bother on the linux one, and he runs some open source AV as well, he is big on open source

routers do not equal firewalls

Oh man i wanna hear your exaplanation for the statement above... 😀

Not every router comes with a bult in firewall

I use this and use Nortons firewall.

With all these thread on "hackers" and "hacking"....

I thought hackers were the good guys and crackers are the bad guys

by the definition of how a router works, it acts as a firewall. You cannot route incomming packets to multiple/all hosts on the inside. That's why you have to manually set a DMZ or port tunneling.

which is expressively why i used the quotes!

Hackers ARE the good guys....but unfortunately, probably half the ATOT community wouldn't have any clue on what crackers are.

the good kind or the bad kind? 😉

At home: random SMC router, nVidia hardware firewall on motherboard, SP2 firewall.
At work: I don't think I'm allowed to say what we're running here *cough*2000computersonafiberoptic*cough* (If that gives you a hint)

Really I would say it was the other way around.. I would say that 90% of ATOT doesnt know what a real Hacker is.

use nmap to do simple port checking, i was looking for a vulnerability assessment site and got sidetracked, i know broadband reports has one, but i don't know if it is good/bad

nessus has a free software for windows, i filled out a form for it, but no email back yet to download it

Actually...you are agreeing with me. What most folks consider as "hackers" are really coined as crackers. But most folks are unaware of them being called crackers. Make any more sense?

For anyone interested.....
