I hate eBay references.

IMO ebay references is actually better than heatware, coz u know that he actually sold/buy something

in heatware 2 person can agree to give heatware without actually selling or buying an item

yea and heatware sucks ... i can go on and create two accounts and say i traded with so and so and i didnt

exactly. i can go on and create hundreds of accounts without verification.
the same could be said about ebay, but you'll need credit cards and more time and some listing fees to take care of.

but start off small, deal with reputable traders and build ur way up from there.

i have no heat but i wouldn't abandon a persona with 6800 posts just to get a 40 dollar item.

different ways of thinking i guess.

but it makes sense to me that the person paying pays first, and then the person ships. to do otherwise.. unless it's someone with massive heat or massive post count, just seems stupid.

8 heat is not enough references???

what number is enough??

I have 80, there's a few people with 200... I generally consider 20+ enough, but will accept less if it's spread out over time. That's actually more important to me. If you have 12 heat, but they've been growing for 2 years, that's enough. 8 heat in 2 weeks is nowhere enough.

Does that make sense to anyone else?

This does not make sense for me. Why would you care if it's spread out over time? That just means he doesn't regularly participate in trading, doesn't know what the rules and regulations are, etc. 8 heat in 2 weeks shows that he is actively trading, and if they are 8 positive heat it shows that he is consistently doing well.

I think what he means is that the trader has been around. I only have 25 evals spread through thel ast 5 years but I get dealt with as a veteran trader and haven't been asked to ship first since 2001. I also like heats spread out because its morel ikely he's part o the AT community and not just some trader who's just trying to get rid of parts, make a buck, or rip someone off.

Also, he can have as many evals as he want, but with an email/pm or two, you can check all of them out.

how can you earn heat if no one is willing to trade w/ you?

People wil trade with you, but you'll just have to ship first. When I first started, admittedly before most of this trolling, I asked nicely to cross-shipped because I needed the parts to get here sooner. Every single veteran trader that I asked cross-shipped with me. It might have helped that I was neffing away all day every day on Off Topic, but hey. 🙂

If someone were trying to buy my stuff and insisted i ship first i wouldn't sell it to them. Thats your option just don't do the deal. Not everyone is like that. Some people are hear to "establish" themselves as a trader. The rest of us need something and decided to get it here becuase its a smaller community than fleabay. There are plenty of people who aren't as stuck up about low heat that you can trade with. In the end its not like anyone promised you could buy that part here.

Just because you have 200 heat and spend all this cash on parts and spend all this time selling doesn't make you any better than anyone else. Anyone could go troll at any time, even with 200 evals there is still the chance they will screw you. As posted above you can dispute charges, you can get your money back and prove where it when alot easier than getting your part back. Even with shipping confirmation it is harder to prove that someone took your item and didn't pay you than to prove that someone took your money and didn't give the item.

I have < 10 heat and 50 fleabay. If you insist i ship first then you don't get the item, move on its not that big a deal. We all have to protect ourselves from being ripped off and this is just my view on it. If you want to require people to ship first don't get pissed if they aren't willing to trust your all mighty heat. Move on and realize we are all just trying to keep from having our money/stuff stolen.

It feels like yet another form of elitist garbage to me. I have more heat than you so you better do what i say. Get over it.

How can we trust a total n00b?

There's a guy on there selling some decent stuff at attractive prices, has like 8 heat, and 12 eBay, and has in his listing that he refuses to ship first. WTF? And people are apparently buying from him?

I put him on my ignore list and moved on, but people keep sending cash/items first to traders with zero or low refs, and then wondering where their stuff is.

Ok, rant over. 😉

Why do everyone complain about people who does not ship before they get paid?
In what stores anywhere in real life does that happen?

I think I know who you're talking about DS. I passed on some items also, because of that.

I've also had people send me items first, before payment, that were $350 and $120. It just depends on both the buyer and seller. If they don't trust each other, then nothing happens.

Well, consider ALL of you started out as n00b at some point with NO heat or EBay. How did you get evals? Wow, amazing huh! By completing transactions. Granted most n00bs don't know what they're doing, that's why you ask them a gazillion questions before committing. I'm a n00b on EBay (according to my personal account, but have done many, many transactions on eBay for previous company), but I do not have any fcuking feedbacks because the fumbducks never gave me feedbacks, even though I left mines.

The moral of the story is, ask questions.

I had a trader here who was selling a Radeon 9800 Pro for $300.00. He had I believe little to no heat so I requested he ship first. Around that time I had roughly 30 positive heatware evaluations. He shipped first, I got the ite as described, and then I sent paypal. He had NO problems with sending to someone with a decent amount of heatware evaluations.

You seem fishy to me if you have no feedback to prove yourself and want someone with 20+ heatware evals to send money first. I would never send money first to someone with no feedback.

i have 1 heat and 24+ ebay. im a good guy. sometimes you gotta give people the benefit of the doubt.

im grateful to the people who sold to me on the FS/FT forums. i picked up a 120 gig and Radeon 9700 Pro. both at very very attractive prices at the time. THe people who sold me to me didn't have high heat or ebay references either.

Trolling is nothing new at all. It has been here for ages.

Actually I think people should do what they are comfortable with. If a seller does not want to ship before being paid then that is his/her choice. If you choose not to trust them that it is your choice. As a new seller it is tough because you yourself do not want to get burned either. Even established traders have gone bad in the past so nothing is for sure.
I think do your research and if you feel good about the deal do it... if you do not feel good about it then move on.
