you know with all the recent threats from Al-Quaeda and the rest of the muslim extremists, shouldnt the US threaten back? Shouldnt the US just say, "if there is another terrorist attack on US citizens, we're going to level (insert holy islam city here such as Mecca)".... that way there will be pressure from their own people not to attack the US.. and i think that if we actually are attacked we should follow through and just level their city, that'll deter future attacks...
hopefully they'll realize not to mess with the US, and that we're serious about this war on Terror.. also, hopefully the city will be cleared out by most of the civilians before we level it.. if not, oh well, they' had been warned...

Expect countries to help smuggle nukes into major US cities, and detonate then all at once. This policy would indicate that the US has become the most dangerous country in history, and others would take action against us. They would do so in a way that could not be traced, and be devistating. Hard to lift fingerprints off a used nuclear weapon.

Is that worth it to you?

Thanks to Bush's actions post 9/11, he doesn't have to threaten back. They know we wont sit back and do nothing.

Yeah, go ahead and "level Mecca".

See what happens.

You do that and I'm fleeing to a remote island in the Pacific.

I think terrorists organizations would do just that. However they have not.

I think from a practical standpoint, nuking Mecca would just stir up the entire Islamic nation against us. Would that not be a sacrifice terrorists might be willing to make? Besides, do you want to be part of a country that would be willing to vaporize a city of people largely indifferent to us? We would be worse than Hitler. Much worse.

I wasn't thinking of terrorists nuking us though. If you were in Moscow, or Beijing, you would start to think the US had gone mad, and needed to be stopped. How would you go about that? Launch your nukes and get wiped out too?

No, send in some high yield nukes up the Potomac, up the Hudson river, and some more on 18 wheelers. They can be gotten in. So you take out the largest dozen cities, and you leave the US with no address to send a reply. Not a pleasant scenario, but no country who can help it will live under the rule of a psychotic nation thousands of times more dangerous than any terrorist organization if they can help it.

Exactly, they know we are beligerent and quickly capitulate to their instigations. It's like a guy in a bar who pushes another person then that person in a fit of anger goes and punches a third, irrelevent person in the face. That is a good way to get attention away from the original instigator to the rash, berserkly reaction of the guy who was pushed.

Our actions in Iraq = great recruiting campaign for terrorist organizations. If we stuck to our careful, widely supported role in Afghanistan we would have really been fighting terrorism.

Hmm, looks like "silence means agreement" applies here.
