No .. the gameplay has *some* similarities. But the challenges are different.
And frankly Dwarf Fortress is mind-shattering complex, so i have no problem with people chosing a better, simpler UI and more streamlined gameplay.

But, DF is still an option.

Man I saw a game yesterday on Steam that played a lot like DF but without the learning curve and of course now I can’t remember what it was called.
 
I picked up rimworld back in 2014 from ludeon through Sendowl .... it was $30 back then too

Hundreds of hours before it made it to steam, and hundreds of hours since then, so many mods!

That said, haven't played it since like July.
 
I'm wondering a bit about the dev's politics - I asked on Steam and they locked the thread - but there is one way to get a small discount, Humble monthly gets 10% off.
