Your picture is very misleading.

Here are the qualifications that they have told people.

Quality of the products
Mastery of flavour and cooking techniques
The “personality” of Chef in his cuisine
Value for money
Consistency between visits

None of those have to do with customer service. You seem to believe their rating has to do partly with customer service. Why do you believe that?

Are you for real? Do you only eat at like Denny's or something?

Great, if not exceptional, customer service is expected. I don't see great ambiance or even tables, chairs, and clean restrooms on that list, but good luck getting a star without those.

You wont see them in larger stores because people do not expect them. You do see them in smaller stores all around me in FL.

As for commission, people who are happy are more likely to buy more shit. Its why most who work on commission try to be nice vs dry. Are you trying to say that is not a thing?

I am also a sample size of one but I have never noticed any meaningful difference in service and I have eaten at restaurants on every continent but Antarctica, and they don't have restaurants as far as I know.

I hate tipping culture. Most service is the same no matter where you go and only varies by the expense of the restaurant. I don't expect my accountant to do a better job if I tip him or her, yet somehow my taxes are done correctly. I think tipping is all about some sort of ego or psychological experience where people feel as if they are being magnanimous or something.

LOL Brown's comments, as he signed the legislation

Brown, traveling to the state’s largest media market to sign the landmark bill, remained hesitant about the economic effect of raising the minimum wage, saying, “Economically, minimum wages may not make sense.”

But he said work is “not just an economic equation,” calling labor “part of living in a moral community.”

“Morally and socially and politically, they (minimum wages) make every sense because it binds the community together and makes sure that parents can take care of their kids in a much more satisfactory way,” Brown said.

Once again, Japan, a country with NO TIPPING CULTURE, has the best service in the world.
.

Why do you keep saying this? 3 star Michelin restaurants all have exceptional service and they are all around the world.

LOL!

Does not surprise me in the least that exactly the "its always up to someone else!" types would also be shitty tippers.

I worked a resort job at 17 and could often clear $500 a night taking on just a few large parties. Average nights were $200+. There's no "just force someone else to pay!!" scheme on earth where anyone is gonna pay those amounts as a straight salary.

Sure some lazy ass that couldn't clear an average $20 to $30 an hour (easily a minimum for a tipped employee that's actually good at their job) thinks a forced $15 an hour is a great bargain. Shit In. Shit Out.

The BOH guy getting $9/hr while the FOH getting $42/hr would disagree with you.

Once again, Japan, a country with NO TIPPING CULTURE, has the best service in the world.

Shitty employees are a result of shitty management.

It's easy to cherry pick the parts of work culture we like and conveniently forget the parts we don't.

Japanese workers average 16 hours of unpaid overtime a month
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/20...-16-hours-unpaid-overtime-month/#.VwOz5l5gjdN
About 40 percent of Japanese workers put in unpaid overtime and their uncompensated overtime adds up to 16 hours a month on average, a labor union survey shows.

The survey by the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo) also found that around 40 percent of workers do not take any paid holiday.
“Instead of easing regulations on working hours, the government should devise measures to tackle the problem of long work hours,” said a Rengo official in charge of the survey.

Of 3,000 men and women in their 20s to 50s surveyed by Rengo on the Internet between October and November last year, 42.6 percent said they sometimes have no choice but to work overtime without pay. Their monthly overtime without compensation averaged 16.7 hours.

While some 60 percent said they put in less than 10 hours a month of unpaid overtime, 5 percent work over 60 hours a month without pay.
The survey also showed that 39.6 percent of the respondents do not take any paid holiday, while 21 percent use about 10 percent of their paid holidays. Only 11.6 percent use up their paid holidays.

On reasons for not being able to take paid holidays, the largest number of respondents said labor shortages in their workplaces would disrupt business operations.

what part of EVERYONE in CA making $15/hr min do u not understands, noob?

$15/hr and you think your server is living the American dream? I will still tip a good server 15-18% even if she gets $15/hr.

One thing I've learned from working years in the service industry through my college days: only those who have done it appreciate it.

We can pay our servers minimum wage, pay $25 for rib-eye, and tip.
Or we can pay our servers $30/hr with full benefits , pay $40 for the rib-eye, and skip the tipping. Ask the French.

Quite frankly, if you are tired of people "having their hand out", then go to Panda Express instead of Panda Inn, or better yet, make your own Orange Chicken. No one is forcing you to eat at sit down restaurants where tipping is considered the norm.

You shouldn't be a waiter full time if you're looking to live the American dream. You should be going after higher education and working at the same time, making just enough to support yourself, not to splurge on unnecessary stuff like fancy vacations, pricey phone planes, etc. Once you have attained higher education, you will most likely have to put in countless hours finding a good job and then working there for much more than 40 hours a week to increase your position there, eventually getting to where you can live the American dream.

I've been to France numerous times and find their system to be incredibly appealing.

The food wasn't obscenely priced, and you were free to leave a euro or 2 on the table or nothing if you didn't want to. Tip or no tip, doesn't make a difference to the waiter doing their job or not and nor should it.

You assume your home town waitress is "splurging on unnecessary stuff like fancy vacations, pricey phone plans..etc"? I dare you tell that to your local waitress at Cheesecake Factory.

Let me ask you, how are you going to "just support yourself" being a full time student and working part time at local Sushi restaurant 25hr/week for $15/hr before tax?

I guess you don't mind $40 for the rib-eye. You want to start paying for cover charge too? You must like paying for fancy water too? How about that tiny can of Coke for 4 euro? You want another can? That would be another 4 euro Sir.

One way or another, you are paying for it, and then some.

Come on people, some of you act like it's such an over paying easy job serving tables.

Why aren't you doing it? Why are restaurants ALWAYS hiring servers?

Yes, I would like to pay the stated price on the menu and call it a day; that way the employer is responsible for paying the server/kitchen a fair and living wage, and it's no longer my problem, because it should never have been my problem to begin with.

It was never your problem. When you decided to step foot into that American restaurant, you made it a problem for yourself. You are welcome to eat at Panera bread instead of Mimis.

Admit it, you are just too cheap to tip (or you are not a pleasant person to be around, therefore you tend to get sub-par service). 😀

And as you are finally experiencing that great American Dream after sacrificing as a waiter while on a diet of Ramen your boss assigns you an H1b worker to train to do your job at less than half pay on your time and instead of rewarding you with a bonus or raise, ...............................................................you get a pink slip:hmm:

For the sake of this argument, I will say that yes I am too cheap to tip. Is that really fair for the servers? They could be the best goddamn server on earth and they wouldn't get a fucking dime from me, and that's too bad. How is that fair for them? How is a tip rewarding their service?

Now the wait staff will feel underpaid, the kitchen will still be underpaid, AND the boss has to make up the difference anyway (in addition to dealing with the burden of calculating minimum earnings vs actual earnings).

Fuck tipping, european/service included model or bust.

Performing the service good, bad, or indifferent has on avg no meaningful effect on the amount of the tip.

That is close to about $1400 per month in take home pay. Find a roommate in an apartment complex near a grocery store and bus station and avoid eating out, you could live off that and still get internet, a cell phone and Netflix. Pickup some extra shifts over breaks and go full time or find a second job in the summer and you might even be able to get a beater car.

Alternatively, try part-time school with night/internet classes and work a full time job.

Are you living in Bernie's utopia? You get your college paid for? You get free health care too? Your math does not add up buddy.

If Tiffany the Cheesecake Factory server is smart enough to go to Harvard, you want her to do part time school with night/internet classes at Chapman University so you and other cheap restaurant goers can skip tipping?
