so i see people recommending this game

A big plus for me and something i would lean me more toward getting the game
is
1) the player view point. are you always stuck in chase view or can you go first person?
2) can you control your character just by the mouse? as in Wow or Everquest i can use (in my case a trackball) to move your character, look around and use the various controls in game like weapons and spells. or are you stuck using the arrow keys or WSAD keys?

So ended up getting this game and liked it at first but not too far in to this game i am in a spot that is frustrating the crap out of me.

I am trying to escape from the prison before my execution but for the life of me i just can not figure out this boxing sequence. Get my ass kicked every time, bad but i could try to figure it out if i could save the game just prior to this. But ever time i have to go back and play thru the dialogue (where i agree to go after the Kings assassin)

I am playing this game for the story and do not care about fighting and thus am playing on easy. If i could find a "god mode" toggle to this game i would turn it on.

any tips on this boxing sequence? i searched google and see there are several "trainers" but do not trust them. Leary of loading .exe files from unknown sources.

so please, anyone that has played this game. tell me it gets better and tips on getting thru this.

I am not quite sure why anyone would pick up this game if they had no desire to play and were only interested in the story but I'll answer your questions.

I really disliked how they changed the boxing in The Witcher 2 as well, basically watch your screen and letters will flash on the screen, you simply have to press the corresponding key (w,s,a,d) at the right moment. It involves no skill at all and should be quite easy once you get the hang of it.

The game gets much better after the prologue, I found it to be quite tedious and would have enjoyed it more as an extended cut-scene.

Stupid question, but are you updated to the latest patch? I know the difficulty was tweaked after launch. Also, you can turn off the quick time events in the option menu. Not sure if it'll help you in this situation.

thanks will try what you suggested. Maybe that is why i am having a problem, i remapped the wsad keys to the arrow keys. but i asssume it still should work but i do not see any of these keys flash on screen. do i have to target him with the "alt" key or something?

this sequence is just all the more frustrating because i cannot save the game at the start of the jail scene. When i die i have to restart that whole prior dialog screen again
(where i agree to go after the assassin if i am allowed to escape)

will double check but pretty sure i have the latest patch. got game from Direct 2 Drive.
will see if turning off the QTE helps in this situation.

as for buying game just for the story. it is one of the things i read about this game that was good. I just am in the mood for a good rpg game with more story and less being a FPS with a lame story around it. The animations and grafix in this game are excellent. I am enjoying the story of this game, i like the dialogue choices and want to play it more as a interactive animated story.

LoL - loved the animations with (Voss? - the female striped trousers girl that brings us food and leaves the key) nice buttocks animations ..realistic jiggle :)

Yeah I guess remapping the wasd to arrow keys messed up that boxing sequence for you. You don't have to target him or anything, the keys should just pop up on the screen automatically during the fight.

Try reverting the controls back to the default layout. During the fight, you should see the letters "W", "A", "S", "W" pop up on the screen, and you simply have to press the buttons as you see them. Also keep in mind that the popup placement is similar to their location on the keyboard (W flashes at the top of the screen, A on the left, S bottom, D right).

And as someone else mentioned, turn off the "Difficult QTE events" option.

An easy way to check whether you have the latest version (2.0) is by looking at the main menu of the game. If you have "Tutorial" and "Arena" options, then you have the latest version. The tutorial is very useful by the way, and helps you get acquainted with various mechanics (crafting, drinking potions, throwing knives, grenades, traps, meditating, combat etc...) It will also suggest a difficulty for you at the end based on your performance.

By the way, during the cutscene where you're asked what you'd do if you were freed, try refusing to go after the assassin and see what happens :D I tried this on my second playthrough and thought it was hilarious

You made a good choice with this game if you're looking for an interactive story. To me it felt like I was playing a role in an interactive movie, and I really enjoyed it. Did you play the Witcher 1 by any chance?

And yeah I agree, Vess looks tight :)

you'd think they'd just have the boxing thing read from a config file.
