The markets are far larger now than they used to be, how many people 20 years ago had a computer compared to now? Even console's are more common now. When I was a little kid console's were around but not everyone had one, now almost everyone has one and lots of folks have multiple consoles in the house.

Yah, prices have remained the same despite ever increasing budgets because the amount of games being sold has also steadily increased. Well, up until recently that is, the last couple of years haven't been so good for developers. Might be better this year though, with all the blockbuster titles released.

I never understood that "argument".
It like saying:
"Hey, jugde I left the keys in the ingnition...it's not my fault someone used my car to commit a bankrobbery".

In Germany the closed that loophole.
Unsecured WiFi = illegal...and oh yeah...you are responsible for what goes on you connection anyways.

I am amazed at the lenght people will lie to, go to and hide behind the "law"...while breaking the law in the same breathe.

same here. I find two things rather remarkable (1) games prices haven't really gone up over the years (I remember my dad buying Donkey Kong Land II for me for $70 upon release) and (2) game prices (for the most part) drop like a rock, esp. on PC. Give it a few months and you can get practically any game for half of the release price.

totally! To curb piracy, they need to do (1) provide a demo so people don't have to waste money figure out what they really want to buy (2) take off DRMs, they just silly. (3) This is for poor people like myself, just wait a bit for the prices to drop. You can get AAA titles for 5-10 bucks.

I rarely pay more than $20 on a game any more unless it is rare & not quite easy to acquire.
No more than $10 on a digital game.

I don't understand why developers won't just release everything on Steam exclusively, then stop their bitching. Or at least ease the bootlegging a bit with that method.

This would be fine with me. Though there would be less incentive to put things on crazy Steam sales without competition.

I still say its BS to identify people though IP's..

what happens when you change ISP, some new guy gets your old leased ip, which was logged, and the letter goes out to you instead of the guy who left this isp, just because the isp gave you his old IP?

This situation happens a lot... ie... how EA kept saying a stupid Printer was Pirating games.

That is why you have a DHCP log...and yes I work for an ISP and yes I have frequent contact with police regarding who had a certain IP at a specific time.

The DCHP log dosn't lie...read up on how WAN works...

i know what a DHCP log is... but still, then why are there constantly false reports sent back?

Everytime they tried to sniff hackers / pirates, they always get at least 1 machine which isnt even a PC...

Read it..

Im thinking witcher probably has something which is sending information out to the company letting the server know, this game is pirate, and its from this system with this registry and this ip...

Also it says the people who were sent letters most of them took the bail out.
Which probably means to tell me, they were hosting it like a mofo on torrents.

Meh... im not promoting piracy... im just saying, the moment u get 1 innocent in your witch hunt... that is no longer a ethical witch hunt.

This is what I'm assuming as well. They buried something in the code somewhere that identifies you as a pirated copy. Sort of in the same vein as how B:AA had the intentional bug if you used a pirate copy.

Our DHCP log dosn't lie.
I doubt a gamedeveloper has a DHCP log...as they have no IP pool to allocate(unlike an ISP)....your post makes no sense.
