Witch suing university over firing

Meh, I don't give a shit. You should be allowed to fire people who hold such ridiculous beliefs. I wouldn't want to hire someone stupid enough to be a witch any more than I like to employ someone stupid enough to be a Christian. Belief systems based on nothing but "faith" are a sure sign of an imbecile without the ability to think critically. Why would you want to employ someone like that?

because it's a public university and the first amendment and all that?

Would you hire someone who you knew was a complete and utter moron? What if you considered religious people in general complete morons? This has nothing to do with the first amendment, it's a case of getting rid of idiots from your work force.

Congress says otherwise. You can choose not to hire morons, that is true. But a public institution can not discriminate based on religious beliefs or lack there of. If this were not the case, it would be virtually impossible for an out-of-the-closet atheist to gain employment. So thank your lucky stars this is the law.

Thankfully being an atheist in my country doesn't hold any kind of stigma like it does in USA, but I take your point. I guess if people arbitrarily deemed atheists to be stupid I would be in the shit.

Do you think maybe she misunderstood what they were really saying?

"We have found a witch, may we burn her?"

I'm surprised you don't blow an artery every time you think about how many world leaders, influential people, scientists, and doctors are religious.

Yes, because it is so much better to arbitrarily deem theists to be stupid.

Maybe stupid is not the correct word, but they certainly lack critical thinking skills at a fundamental level. And it's certainly not arbitrary.
