Good luck bro, tough times. Many people in my lab got hit recently, not fun for the people that leave nor for the people that stay.

And there it is. I am not surprised, but a little saddened. My group was getting slow and my boss was not my biggest fan. I guess it was only logical.

I cannot say that I am totally saddened by my departure because, truth be told, i did not enjoy the job at all. I broke the news to my gf, she was actually kind of happy because she said the job has changed me in the past years and that I always come home looking down.

I think tonight will consist of a lot of alcohol and watching reruns of Two and a Half Men :(

That sucks.

Keep your head up - some of my best (professional) moves have been prompted by stuff like this.

were you the only person in the group who got fired?
what was your manager's reason?

if you hated your job, knew that you boss didn't like you much, and sensed this coming, you should have been applying for new jobs months ago...

Sorry to hear, hope you find something soon

Oh Jesus Fucking Christ, does ATOT ever grow tired of playing armchair quarterback? No, no it never does.

OP, sorry to hear. Good luck, and hopefully the job market continues to improve.

What part of the country do you live in?

Isn't the industrial field where your best money is going to be?

Sorry to hear that you lost your job. Been there, done that, it aint no fun.

I was the only one to get canned. He just said he feel it's not a good fit for me. Everyone else vouched for me, but what he says goes.

I sensed it like 8 weeks weeks ago, but I have been searching for over a year. I have been looking, but i did not find much. Most of the jobs want 5-7 years. i still applied anyways, but i am not expecting calls from those. I would normally not be worried, but it is the whole jumping to a different industry thing that gets me worried....

No doubt. It's beyond annoying at this point.

OP, I feel for ya. Been there and done it before (twice in fact)
Best of luck to you in your new search. Enjoy the time off though... just not TOO much!

I am in MA. There is a lot of money in that field....just not as an engineer without his PE. The problem I see with this field, however, is that there are alot of outfits starting now. The competition is so fierce. Lots of times, I would find myself working after hours because i was working a job where we had no budget because they made a low bid just to get the work.

Have you thought about working on offshore drilling rigs? Or working in the design of offshore drilling rigs?

When you say the "industrial field", exactly what industrial field are you talking about? Chemical and oil refinery plants?
