Congratulations on your decision, Isla. And I'm glad you have no regrets about your earlier decision to make time to take care of your kids and be there for them. I hope that you do enjoy your return to the workforce. It won't be too traumatic. :p LOL!

Don't mind your hubby. Tell him to take your former role instead of whining. Hehehe! I'm kidding. Best of luck! ;)

Good luck!

My mom received similar complaints from my dad when she decided to go back into the workforce (when I was in highschool). The experience ended up proving to be very positive for her, gave her a sorts of new confidence and respect. I say, go for it! The kids are okay...just make sure the family is together for dinner time!

You have been mentioning doing this for over a year now.....finally!

I congratulate you on your decision and good luck!

Below are some quotes from Albert Einstein.

"Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character."

"One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community."

Yup... I needed to take care of some things regarding my family first, but now that I feel confident that I've done everything I can, I know this is the right thing for me. :) My husband is freaking out a little bit over my decision, but he is just going to have to deal with it. Change is scary, but for me, stagnation is scarier! BTW, I love the Einstein quotes, especially the last one. I am doing this for the love of it, and because I know that in many ways it will help fulfill a need I have to be of good use in the world.

And thank you, Heather, Geekbabe :D, Yield, and simms, and fluxquantum for your support and encouragement. I might not actually begin work until next year (we are talking about what is essentially a government job, lol!), but the process is definitely moving forward! Tomorrow I go to the school I used to work for and pick up a couple of letters of recommendation.

:) :) :)

Susan,as the mother of a child of high school age with special needs I applaud your decision ! Teachers like you make such a difference in the lives of kids like my son.Frankly I don't know what I would have done over the years without the help and support of my son's teachers :)

:) :) :) :) :)

/waves to all the awesome ladies of ATOT

Thanks everyone... your support means a whole lot to me. It's about bloody time I did this, I guess I was just waiting to be sure my kids could handle it. They can... the oldest is in high school, the middle is in 4th grade, and the youngest is ready for preschool. Most schools around here have preschool programs so he should be able to go wherever I go. And then I'll be available shortly after school... the worst that would happen is that they would have to ride a bus to get to whatever school I am at. That's why I'm focused on getting a position within a certain distance from home... it might take a little longer, but it will help me balance supervising my own kids afterschool with teaching. :)

I've always found that the kids with special needs really are the most rewarding to work with. They teach me. And of course, the nice thing about teaching is that I'll still have weekends, holidays, and summer/winter breaks to give me plenty of time to keep up with my family, hobbies, projects, and interests. I need to do this for me... it's just that simple.

Anyway, I'm off to go wrestle letters of recommendation from my last supervisor and principal! :D

Thanks guys. :) This is so completely perfect for me... it gives me a chance to ease back into it and still have my son with me all day. I'll get out with plenty of time to spare to get my other kids from school... I'm just kind of stunned at how it is all falling into place.

Sometimes, when you know in your heart that what you are doing is what you are meant to do, it seems like miracles happen to help you along. If that made any sense. :p

I certainly believe that is true.

lowtech, yup... I'll still pop in regularly but porbably only once a day instead of 3 or 4. :p

kranky- :)

and bdawg, I think he's in shock! There isn't a single thing he can complain about with this particular turn of events. I watched his face when I told him, it was hilarious. It was like he was trying to come up with something negative to say, but there wasn't anything. All the bases are covered with this job... down to me having plenty of time to make his dinner before he gets home from work. I know what is wrong... he's scared of me having a measure of independence. Not to worry, we have an appointment with a highly regarded counselor on Tuesday. :D
