Wisdom Tooth question...

I'm in quite alotta pain and it even hurts when i swallow. I can see half the tooth and the other half is still under the gum but i can tell that it's trying to get out. I have a headache and the whole side of my face is sore. Anyone with past experience, should i get it pulled or wait it out?

Dentist would probably be the one to ask here, but sounds to me like you should have it pulled...then again what do I know? See a dentist.

If it hurts that much I think it should be pulled, but I'm no dentist so...

I have 4 "wisdom" tooths.. never given me any pain so I decided to keep 'em.

Could be a lot of things -

Could have piece of food stuck in there and got an infection.
Could just be the "teething" process of the tooth breaking through the gums.
Could be an impacted wisdom tooth trying to push ahead of the tooth in front of it.

Go to the dentist, get some x-rays done.

From what you described, it sounds much like what mine felt like when it got infected due to being impacted. The entire side of my face hurt, chewing/swallowing was painful, & I got a headache. I talked my dentist into working me into his schedule, he flushed it out & told me I had to get it removed.

Definitely go see a dentist though.

Yet another insightful opinion passed by the master of passing 😉
Most dentists will pull em anyway just as a precaution (and to bump their paychecks 😉). They usually give you some dope pain killers too 🙂

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like i'll be going to the dentist the day after tomorrow. Should be interesting i guess.

Dentist. If they're impacted, the dentist should discuss removal and perhaps recommend an oral surgeon. Ask about a specialist.

Guy at work is going to have one of his cut out (he's 40+ and still has all of his wisdom teeth).

Mine were all cut out about 15 yrs ago.

I remember needing the Tylenol 3 for a couple of days after that.

My wisdom teeth started to surface and cause me alot of pain, but then, all of a sudden, they just stopped growing and I felt fine. I was pretty lucky with that.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH man.....those painkillers.... they are sooooo gooooooood! makes me wanna be a druggie. heheheh

Get em' out. I had five of those bastards. 😕 They never came in fully so I had the gum partially over the top thing going on also. My gums were constantly sore. It hurts like hell for a couple of days afterwards, but the fact that I never had a problem with my mouth since was well worth it. So were the painkillers. 😉

I had one at age 16. I never got it pulled out . . . of course there was all of that immense pain, but I bore it and I'm fine so far. 🙂 Perhaps the best advice is to consult with the dentist. 🙂

Hmm.. they caused me quite some pain in the beginning as well, especially when chewing, but although they're still growing now, I don't feel anything.

Feels kinda funny, though, to have a couple of extra teeth 🙂

Mine would grow, then recess, then grow again... really sucked. They stopped growing about 2 years ago, so I never got them out... my fiance was born without em.

One of mine is in completely and two others are part-way. The other one is unaccounted for. The dentist recommends I get them pulled, but I say, "they're staying in until they hurt." I had a bit of pain when they were emerging, because they would press my gums outward to get crushed when I bite.

Oh Wisdom teeth - what a headache!

My dentist told me that I need to get them all 4 taken out, this was like 8 years ago. I never did, probably once every 18months they ache for about 2 or 3 days. I'm thirty something now and still have all four, one of them has just started to surface in the over the course of a year and is starting to give me problems.
I'm such a wimp, I'm not really looking forward to getting 4 teeth yanked outta my head which are impacted now, even with pain killers. I can't afford it either, oh what to do?!
