Wisdom teeth...

So I went to the dentist for the first time in like 4 years and they "recommended" me to have my wisdom teeth removed. Well, my wisdom teeth have been up for a couple years and I haven't had any problems with them. Although, I had braces when I was younger and had to have 4 permanent molers removed because of "crowding."
What I don't get is why people get them removed. They say that there is a chance of them crowding the rest of your teeth. Well if you get them removed, won't the opposite happen and your teeth start to space out? What are some legitimate reasons to get your wisdom teeth out? For the Vicodin? Are all dentists greedy bastards?😕
 
I know that in my brother's and sister's case, their wisdom teeth were painful because of the crowding. So they were removed.

I never even noticed mine coming in.
 
Go get a second opinion. If a second dentist tells you to get them out then I would seriously consider it.
 
1. crowding. 2. a lot of times they come in crooked which messes up the rest of your teeth. 3. a lot of times they are left in.
 
Oral surgeon. It's painless (they usually give you a pill to take that makes you totally high before hooking up an IV) and heals quick (took 2-3 days for me). Dentists will massacre your gums.
 
One was coming in sideways and it hurt my teeth. I just went to a regular dentist and he removed it in about 30 minutes, and it was compacted too, had to cut it in half and everything
 
I'm going to have my pulled soon. Weeeeee!!!

I'll be a drooling slobbing mess, but the Vicodin will take all the care away.
 
Then can become impacted which can screw up the rest of your teeth. And they can be a source of infection.

My bottom two were just like that and caused my bottom teeth to become crowded and crooked. When they are impacted like that they have to crack through the jaw bone to get them out. More painful than just the normal removal.
 
I am quite lucky. I was never born with them. No wisdom teeth, and my teeth go all the way back, so there is no room for them either.

did you ask him why he recommended removal? if not, call and ask. the reason should be documented.

Vicodin for wisdom teeth removal is like taking an AK-47 on a hunting trip for a deer. No way would they give you that.

I had the ones on side removed because the bottom one was crooked and might cause problems with my molar. Other than that the other side was left in.

I took local freezing and was complaining that the freezing was lasting too long because I wanted to eat 5 hours later. They gave me Adasol for the pain but i didn't use any.
 
Some people have legitimate problems... other times its just that the denti$t has yacht payments. Buyer beware.

Not in all cases. Mine came in and pushed other teeth into alignment. If I'd gotten braces, I would have had to have my wisdom teeth pulled, but since I'd refused braces when I was younger (they would have been purely cosmetic), the wisdom teeth came in properly and everything sorted itself out.

I think that a major cause of wisdom teeth removal in modern times is because too many kids get braces.

I had mine removed when the tips were starting to peek out because i had braces when i was younger and i didnt want to risk it messing up my beautiful straight teeth. 😀
 
i had straight teeth before my lower wisdom teeth messed them up a bit. i got them taken out before they caused more damage.

I was on vicoprofen for a week. And I sure as hell needed it.
 
When I got my wisdom teeth pulled...all 4 were deeply impacted.

And all I had was tylenol...I am not ashamed to admit that I quitely cried myself to sleep that night like a little bitch.

I didn't cry when I broke my leg or any number of other really nasty injuries that I sustained...but my head/jaw hurt so bad that I went past crazy.
