Wisdom Teeth

Hey guys,

Quick question for all you law experts out there. I am 18 (almost 19) and my dentist suggested that I get my wisdom teeth removed. Well, simply put, I refuse to have the pulled; however, my parents are requiring me to do so, or at least trying to make me.

Obviously, they cannot force me to do anything seeing as to how I am 18, but how do I convince them that they cannot make me get my teeth pulled? Are there any court cases or specific laws that you could point me to?

Just so you know, this is not a rebellious thing on my behalf. There are many reasons why I am refusing to have my teeth pulled, and from a law viewpoint, it is my decision. But, I am having a hard time telling this to my parents.

Thanks a bunch.

dude get them pulled, one week of pain is prolly a lot better than having them mess with your mouth for your life.

PLUS VICODIN, and prolly MORPHINE!!!! right there is every reason you need to get them pulled.

Who pays for your health and dental care?

What are your reasons for not wanting it done?

If your dentist says to get them removed you should really listen to him. I dunno though, I get to keep mine in😀

You realize that you are in for a world of rediculous oral problems if you don't get them pulled, even tumours can develop from not having wisdom teeth removed.

Why the hell woudnt you get them removed? Trust me! I waited until this year to do mine (i am 33) and it really sucked!
I didnt have any impacted teeth, one tooth came right out and the other needed some cutting and stitches.

The dentist told me flat out..had i done it years ago, I would not have had to get any cutting at all or stitches..it would have been a yank right out and go home deal.
Plus the longer you leave them in the worse they get, mine were actually pushing on my other teeth so hard that my gums in my entire mouth onthe bottom were imflammed and would bleed if I brushed them too hard.
Plus all the nasty food that gets caught in them and your breath will end up stinking to high heaven!

Mine gave me pain, infection and headaches.

I got them removed. Took two days off (three including that day).

Easy stuff.

If your sure you don't want to get them removed well then there is no law needed. Your an adult. If you and your parents are at that much of a standstill, they could kick you out if you threaten some sort of lawsuit or that. You can always move you--you know?

If you leave them in, you can look forward to teeth being pushed out of position or even being cracked, possibly gum problems too.

Unless it's some religious reason where your faith doesn't allow your body to be altered (but jagged stump teeth are OK) then you really need to listen to the dentist.

Just get them cut out. They'll gas you and you'll be dancing around like a fairy. Plus they'll probably give you painkillers which will make you feel all good inside.

I think he's scared. It's not that bad, I was kind of nervous when I went in but the doctor reassured me that there shouldn't be a problem. Plus, all of mine had to be cut out, which is the worst case scenario. :Q I just remember waking up and everything is fvcked up and blurry. I get into my Dad's truck and we drive home and I just drop into bed.

I wake up six hours later and the anestisia is gone. The holes were only bleeding for a couple hours after I got up, but after that I was okay. The down side is that you can't eat or chew anything. I just ate Jello and pudding for the Friday I got my wisdom teeth cut out and Saturday too. Sunday I was eating bread. The next friday I was eating normal yet I could still feel it, just no pain.

JUST DO IT AND GET IT OVER WITH. The doctor gives you some pain killers if you really need them, I never used them. God, and I thought I was a baby....

I can't believe you managed to drive yourself home. LOL I bet you were all over the road. I had all 4 cut out at once too and I was passed out almost the entire day.

bah, i was at a lan the same night i had mine out, vicodin is amazing when you have pain, although mine didnt reallly blledas he put stitches in, the only problem was i got dry socket in my bottom right, it sucked but unless your a pussy you can live with it.

I had all 4 out this summer. I slept for an hour or two that day. Never took a single painkiller (neither the prescription or OTC). Ate soft foods that day, and normal foods after that.

I would like to hear your reasoning for not having them pulled. Like others have stated, get them pulled. As you get older wisdom teeth can cause all kinds of health problems, including sinus problems.

Hydro-Codeine----that stuff is about as effective as baby aspirin.

There was no way in hell that I could have driven home afterwards. I woke up, stumbled into the car, and had someone else drive me home where I promptly crashed on the couch for a few hours.

Had mine pulled about 2 years ago. It was awesome, make sure they first gas you and then IV you. Wokeup when it was all over and doctor gave me vicodin. Took that for about a week while I played all the way through Max Payne 1 and survived on milkshakes. God that was an awesome week.
