Here's the flip side.

I've had mine out. Doc just deadened the area, pulled the teeth and put gauze in my mouth to soak up the blood.

Gave me a prescription for penicillin. Told me how to rinse out my mouth with salt water. Also told me to eat lots of soup with a milk base, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.

Please note that I wasn't put out and had no sedatives.

That's basically all that happened to me too - and that was last Friday. I only had my top two teeth removed (since I don't have any on the bottom), and out of the 20 minutes that I was there, 18 were spent on waiting for the local anesthesia to kick in.

I actually stopped taking the pain meds (not the amoxicillin that I'm still taking as we speak) because my teeth didn't actually hurt (my gums just itch a lot at the moment). All in all, I still played up the sympathy factor with my girlfriend who made me chicken soup and bought me pudding, but we don't have to let her know that 😛

Wow, I'm almost glad my 4th wisdom tooth finally erupted a few weeks ago. My dentist was saying that if the last one didn't come out, it would be necessary to start ripping. Currently, my wisdom teeth are pretty well aligned. One feels a bit jagged, one has a cavity, one is ok and the last one just came out. The real pisser is that on my right side, one of my wisdom teeth bites down on my gums every so often. Then it's two straight weeks of canker sores and one-sided eating.
